BIG prospect joins the JoePa army

ok guys....breathe again, you got a recruit. A pretty good one at that. Shawn Oakman from Penn Wood HS a 6"8 Defensive End joins the Nittany Lions. I do recall seeing him play in the State Title game for Basketball, pretty good athlete.

Rivals lists him as the 244th best player in the Nation. 7th best player in Pennsylvania and 20th best Strong side DE in the land. earning him a 4 star rating.

Scout has him as a 3 star and 28th DE in the nation.

Had offers from UConn,NC State,Rice,South Carolina, and Temple.
His offers aren't overly impressive? SO i don't know whats up with that. But gthe size can't be overlooked. I heard he had a falling out with the Pitt coaching staff, some character issues. And we aren't in desperate needs of Dends. So its not a big loss for us, but its a good gain for you guys.

He is a project. If he was a project and played anything at PSU other than D-Line, I'd be pretty irritated. But this kid was Plan A from us since day 1, so thats a good sign.

I'm a little concerned that he publicly named Pitt his leader and 2-3 days later committed to PSU, though.

Its a nice snag. I have Barnes and Williams as better DE prospects on our board but we are taking at least 2, and Oakman was the staff's 1st choice. They offered Kerner this week as well, at DE.

Still a lot of question marks w/ this recruiting class, but a nice pickup nonetheless.

He could probably start at Power Forward for the Lions if the whole DE thing doesn't work out.
