PSU and Big preTENd "High Academic Standards" a SHAM!

Post by WPIAL~Titan »

Here's something that no PSU football fan wants to talk about...While they are saying what "HIGH ACADEMIC STANDARDS" they have and how Fitz and Lewis and Shady weren't able to cut it academically at their bastian of academic prowess, it is a FACT that BIG TEN SCHOOLS, INCLUDING PSU, regularly accept non and partial qualifiers.

None of the NonQualifiers or Partial Qualifiers are offered athletic scholarships, they are accepted with lower admissions because they cannot and do not meet regular academic admissions standards.

Point of reference: A partial qualifier is a prospective athlete who meets only one of two minimum academic requirements grade point average or standardized test score. The minimums are a 2.0 GPA with a 900 on the SAT or 21 on the ACT; or a 2.5 GPA with a 700 SAT or 17 ACT.

A nonqualifier meets neither standard. For example, Nebraska often accepted over 100 Recruits as partial or non-qualifiers until Texas got the Big-12 to limit them to 2 each per team, the athlete is ineligible for athletics for one year. Nebraska hated this rule and was the only Big-12 School to vote against such limits.

Penn State has been doing the same thing for years to grab role players and walk-ons, along with most Big Money Making Programs in the Big Ten and schools that can afford to pay for expenses such as insurance, uniforms, practice equipment, etc. Many other smaller schools cannot pay to enroll such players lacking admissions criteria.

NCAA rules do not restrict the number of partial qualifiers or nonqualifiers a school can have, but conferences can, but the Big Ten is the only conference that permits unlimited Non-Quailifiers and Partial Qualifiers.

The Big Ten, which had always proclaimed itself as an elite academic conference, is the only BCS Conference that does not limit the number of partial and nonqualifiers.

An athlete could have scored a 60 sum score on the ACT (an average of 15) and had a 1.5 GPA and still enrolled in a school like Penn State or Michigan or any Big Ten School, and even Northwestern has admitted doing it.

Players can practice for the first year but cannot play. Once they meet the Big Ten "strict" college classes set up for them, they can play in their second year to a fifth year.

There are differing standards among the major college conferences for
initial eligibility of potential student athletes.

Let me repeat: The BIG TEN is the only conference that accepts UNLIMITED NonQualifiers and Partial Qualifiers.

The Big Ten believes they balance this exception by having higher standards after the player is admitted and thus proves he can do college work even though he did not qualify under NCAA Standards, and this is why they have no restrictions on Non-Qualifiers’ and Partial Qualifiers’.

This is why many potential recruits at Big Ten Summer Camps actually take remedial classes that prepare them for the college courses even though they may not meet NCAA Standards on QPA, SAT and ACT to be admitted as regular students that have to meet standard admission criteria.

The bigger schools with bigger budget and bigger summer camp numbers, cheat by hiding Non-Qualifiers and Partial Qualifiers players that do not play their first year as they qualify on easy courses to pass them on subject many colleges will not teach and this how they get around for NCAA Admission Standards.

This is another reason why they have Rosters from 145 Players to 190 players as Walk-Ons and become role players that stay for 4 or 5 years at the school.

The Bigger Money Making Programs can afford to keep them and practice them with the resources they earn, but other schools that do not make that money do not have such large Rosters and that hurts them in competition to the Big Money Making Schools.

The Big Ten Schools create "special" curricula for academically challenged PSA's to get them eligible.

NOTE: The Big East does not accept any NQ's Or PQ's unless given a waiver (Rarely Granted By NCAA) and why guys like Fitz had to go to a Junior College or College Prep Academy before coming to PITT.

Penn State hates this kind of information to get out but they cannot deny it does not happen and they have been doing it for years.

NOW TAE and Not Wit fans...GO AHEAD AND SPIN THOSE FACTS.

Wait, spinning things won't work..."Shady couldn't cut it" is total BS...Why??? BECAUSE any institution who recruited and maintained Gus Felder on their football team [until he used up his collegiate eligibility] is automatically ineligible to mention academics/football/recruiting with any credibility.

Titan, you are one of the strangest people I have ever met.

How many kids have the Big Ten programs had to turn away because of academics? Michigan just went through a fiasco where Rodriguez was trying to get Demar Dorsey admitted academically. The university said no. Guess where he ended up. Louisville.

Now... how is it possible that Michigan has lower or parallel admissions requirements to Louisville if he did not get accepted at Michigan but WAS accepted at Louisville?

Why is it that PSU was on the fence with Pullium, who is probably not gonna qualify for the fall and have to enroll in Kiski, but the kid said publicly that Pitt told him he is accepted with no questions asked?

Explain those TWO very recent examples. There's plenty of others.

TAE, you talk about how PSU cooled on Shady and other because of their poor academic standing. You claim sanctimoniously that PSU has such high academic standards, higher than Pitt's standards...

Given your typical NitWIt arrogance on this issue, please explain these two cases and then we'll talk:

Gus Felder
Floyd Wedderburn

You want to talk UMichigan??? Here's something to talk about...

Talk to me about that huge and revealing investigative report from the Ann Arbor News a couple years ago. I do not have the link handy, but I will find it if you need me to.

I recall reading that UMichigan athletes were allowed to drop-add all semester long rather than just the first couple weeks of the semester. This interesting little "athletic benefit" allowed them to do the following:

Drop a course they were failing with barely any time left in the semester, rather than take the F or W that other students had to deal with. Then, to keep the athlete eligible, they'd immediately get placed into an "external course" for the last couple weeks of the semester that consisted of no lectures or labs. They had to write one paper and hand it in to a TA from the department. They papers were almost always graded as A's. Figure it out, TAE: This all means that the "student"/athlete doesn't have to go to class, gets an "F" for the course, but technically doesn't actually receive the F since he drops any proof that he took the course with only a couple weeks left in the semester, and is told to write a paper for an "A" to make up for it.

On top of it, UMichigan gets a high graduation rate, but nobody wants to talk about WHY these players graduate. MIGHT THE SAME THING BE HAPPENING AT OTHER BIG 10 SCHOOLS?

There's a reason UMichigan hired Rodriguez.

If this stuff happened at Pitt, we wouldn't have starters ending up at Cal U, Southern Alabama, and IUP every year.

Other revelations in the Ann Arbor article:

- Athletes are steered toward easy majors...SOUND FAMILIAR NIT FANS??? HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT, TURF MAINTENANCE, DIVISION OF GENERAL STUDIES...or my personal favorite, steering AfroMan Navorro Bowman to a career in CRIMINAL JUSTICE!!!

- Former UMIchigan athletes saying they weren't allowed to pick certain majors because they might be too challenging...Look at the majors of most of your football players, NitWits...Disgraceful. Embarassing.

- Former UMIchigan academic staff saying some players couldn't even read or do basic math...Floyd, Gus, and Mr. Jerevicious where are you?

- Former UMichigan tutors saying they were told to do players' papers and homework...I'd say this is happening at PSU, but the sea of mediocrity that exists in University Park (also known as the rest of the undergrad student body) probably couldn't help the players either.

But hey, all you need to do is find a way to keep a decent graduation rate and nobody will question your academic integrity, right?

That, my friends is what is happening at places in the Big 10...The last bastian of academic prowess.

That happens at EVERY school though, Titan. They all steer kids towards easy majors. We're not talking about what happens w/ their majors, bc if we did, I would mention Dorsett and his basket weaving. I am talking about admissions for student athletes. The SEC and Big XII and others will lower those to get any kid accepted. That does not hapen in the Big Ten.

I'll reiterate the Shady situation one more time, and that's it. He and his mother met w/ Paterno. He told Paterno that all he was concerned with was "getting paid". He expressed multiple times in that interview that he had no concern for life after football. His own mother was angry with him over this interview, supposedly.

This was verified by numerous people within the program, and that's why they did not pursue him any longer. His best friend was JB Walton, who he met at Hargrave, b/c his grades were TOO LOW for EVERYONE coming out of HS. Even Miami cooled on him, dude. He was supposed to go to Hargrave and get his academics in order. Walton DID. McCoy went there and did nothing. Pitt took him. Doesn't this mean it is easier to get into Pitt than Miami and Penn State? Does red and blue make green?

Why would he go to Hargrave voluntarily when he's a 5-star RB with offers everywhere? His grades were poor, bud. End of story.

I'm never going to deny the kid is a tremendous talent, but there ARE lower athletic admissions requirements at conferences that are not called the Big Ten.

If PSU is such a Harvard or MIT, kindly explain GUS FELDER and FLOYD WEDDERBURN. I am sure that they were not as highly regarded as Shady or Fitz. KIndly explain majors with degrees designed that a 4th grader could earn. I certainly hope to God that PSU would have high grad rates with Mickey Mouse "academic" programs like they have.

While you're at it, kindly explain inflated graduation rates that B10 schools earn using the UMichigan method. How many other schools allow drop-adds like that? Get off the sanctimonious pedestal already. PSU's standards are no better than Pitt's, and in fact they may be LOWER. It's smoke screen and mirrors and when a Shady or a Fitz says no to PSU, they weren't PSU material or couldn't cut it academically. These excuses do not surprise me, given the holier-than-thou arrogance of the PSU fan base and head coach. "Shady/Dion/Fitz didn't choose PSU over Pitt so he MUST not have met our rigorous academic standards"..."We didn't want them anyway; they weren't PSU material"...It wasn't that a recruit didn't choose PSU, PSU just didn't choose them. The PSU arrogance is disgusting. They've never lost a recruit, EVER!

FACT: The B10 schools including PSU accept partial and non-qualifiers. Then, they funnel them into easy courses and give them 'ships. Granted, many are role players, but B10 schools do this then preach academics par excellence. What a JOKE.

Read my last 2 posts...YOU'RE IN DENIAL. B10 Academics=SHAM.
