ICC WEEK 1
ICC WEEK 1
I love reading the LHAC posts of the week, so I'll try doing some sort of game by game for the ICC. We'll see how it goes since I'm not familiar with everybody in the conference.
Southern Huntingdon @ West Branch
Southern came on at the end of last season behind their quarterback Goshorn who is back for his senior season. The Rockets won all of their final four games against NBC, Mo Valley, TM, and Bishop Carrol. I'll say that the best player on the field will be Goshorn and he'll be enough for SH to get by an improving West Branch group. They are still fairly young from what I've heard since they started a lot of sophomores last year.
SH- 26
WB- 14
Huntingdon @ Mount Union
The Trojans are rebuilding a little, but they do have some talented kids who were successful in junior high the last couple of years. I think they will be better at the end of the season, but right now they aren't ready for the Bearcats.
Huntingdon-34
Mt. Union-7
Everett @ Glendale
The Warriors are huge up front. I saw the article in the paper that talked about their size. I'm not sure Juniata College has that kind of size up front, haha. The scary thing for me is the lack of skills kids in Everett compared to the skill kids that Glendale has. The Vikings have a pretty big line as well, but their skill kids might be tops in the conference. Quarterback, Tyler Jenny is one of the best this conference has seen in the last 10-15 years. The kid can do it all running and throwing. Everett can't match the speed of the Vikings and Glendale shows everyone that they are a team capable of beating anyone on their schedule.
Glendale- 30
Everett- 12
Tussey Mountain @ Juniata Valley
The Josh Smith Era begins at Tussey. The Titans have a line that shouldn't be too bad, and their quarterback Foore is a veteran so that should help. The problem for Tussey is that Mike Smith's boys are on the up and up, while Tussey is dealing with the loss of some key players (Neuder and Diehl). When you take away that much of your offense, you are going to struggle.
Juniata Valley 26
Tussey Mountain 0
Northern Bedford @ Mo Valley
The Panthers head to Mo Valley this week hoping to turn things around after last year's disappointing 4-6 campaign. Northern returns more starters than anyone in the conference, while Mo Valley loses more starters than anyone in the conference. Northern returns their entire offensive line, TE, and starting backfield. They also return nearly their entire defense which ended last year with two shutouts and allowed only 9 points in the final three games. Mo Valley has to replace pretty much their entire team, but they are Mo Valley, which means they'll still be better than most.
NB- 20
MV- 6
Bellwood @ Tyrone
Always an awesome game. What do you write for this game? Well, Bellwood is a loaded A school. Tyrone is a loaded AA school. Both are capable of winning their district and both are probably favored in their class. In this case, I love rooting for the underdog but my head pulls for the bigger school. Since the game is at Tyrone that is even more reason for me to like the Golden Eagles. Bellwood can beat these guys about 1 or 2 times out of every 5 or 6 games...this isn't one of them.

Re: ICC WEEK 1
I agree with all these picks. The only ones I think could go the other way are Bellwood/Tyrone and NBC/Mo Valley, but I think I would have picked every game exactly as you have.
Re: ICC WEEK 1
Southern Huntingdon at West Branch
Two teams who appear to be getting better. I'm sure it has been hard for the Southern Huntingdon faithful to see their team struggle the way they have recently. I was used to seeing them punish pretty much everyone while I was growing up. They got back to .500 last year which is a step in the right direction and they return one of the top QB's in the conference in Daniel Goshorn. I look for SH to make a serious run for the ICC South crown. West Branch has been very poor of late but appear to be making baby steps and could win 3-4 games this year if the pieces fall into place. I'll take SH to take care of business in the opener.
SH 27 WB 7
Huntingdon at Mount Union
The Bearcats return a solid core while the Trojans lose a ton. Mount Union has had some very strong JH teams over the past few years so I don't look for them to slip too much and should be a better team at the end of the season. I look for MU to finish up above 500 and fall short of the 6AA playoffs, while Huntingdon puts together a nice season and earns a playoff birth.
Huntingdon 20 MU 0
Everett at Glendale
On paper Glendale has the most talent returning in the ICC this year. Their passing game should be lights out with QB Tyler Jenny dishing it out to WR Westover and TE Cree. They also have good size on the O line which is anchored by Dave Brown. The only question mark on offense is the running game, but Jenny is a major running threat and whoever they hand the ball to should benefit from the other weapons on offense. The Vikings defense should be above average as well, especially on the D line and in the secondary. I keep hearing about this huge line from Everett, but I have my doubts. Yes, the kids they have up front are huge, but I'm not sure how athletic/tough/strong they are. I personally would rather have someone that goes 180-190 and has good footwork and isn't lazy on plays than a 270 pound tank who is immobile. Everett has some serious holes in the skill spots and I would be surprised if this team wins more than 4 games. Look for Tyler Jenny's name in next week's Altoona Mirror for athlete of the week.
Glendale 33 Everett 6
Claysburg at Williamsburg
Not much to say about this one other than the winner will finish 1-9 and the loser will finish 0-10 most likely, unless one of them beats West Branch. Pirate QB Lee and Bulldog RB Ickes will be the best athletes on the field. I'll give the win to Williamsburg with their 14 returning starters and home field advantage.
Williamsburg 19 Claysburg 16
Tussey Mountain at Juniata Valley
This will be the most competitive game between two ICC teams this week. Tussey loses a ton, namely thunder Nueder and lighting Diehl. However the Titans do have a few guys who i can see being playmakers like HB Vinny Coy and returning QB Chris Foore who was a state qualifier in track. Foore does a nice job of taking care of the football and making good decisions. Mix that with his athleticism and he should have a nice senior season. A newcomer to look out for in the passing game is 6'4" TE Eric Shuke. Juniata Valley returns a few more kids than Tussey from last years 5-5 team. The Hornets always seem to have a solid running game, last year with McCrum, and this year with Morrison. I'll take Morrison running behind an experienced line and home field advantage over Foore trying to make plays behind a poor line.
JV 20 TM 14
Northern Bedford at Moshannon Valley
The tale of two 2010 classes. Mo Valley loses dang near everyone from last years 7-3 team, while NB returns a boat load from last years disappointing 4-6 team. The Knights have a lot of tradition in their football program and will hand the QB job over to Joel Martin on a full time basis after getting some work last year for an injured Gmerick. I look for MV to finish up around 500, if not a little below. The Panthers appear poised for a breakout season with the most returning players in the conference. Northern should be dominant on the lines if they can stay healthy. The trip to Houtzdale hasn't always been kind to the Panthers over the years, but not this year.
NB 20 MV 0
Bellwood at Tyrone
The pride of the ICC travels to the most respected program in the area to renew this great rivalry. I wish more schools could find ways to do what these two and Hdon/MU do, go out of conference to open the season. Of course for most schools their main rivals are within their own conferences and these schools are exceptions, but I just think it would be nice to see where you stand and figure some things out against a team from another conference before you get into the meat of a conference schedule.
Tyrone is loaded with talent. QB Franco and WR Patton are just juniors and could be one of the best combo's in PIAA AA this year. The line looks to be solid for Tyrone and the defense looks to be legit. Bellwood lost some key players in QB Plumber and the RB whose name is slipping my mind. The new QB, Evans, is supposed to be a solid replacement however. No doubt this will be a slugfest and the people from Tyrone and Bellwood are lucky to have such a great rivalry. This is what HS football is about.

Re: ICC WEEK 1
Everett's size is "talked" up way too much. Yes they are big, but very slow. Teams won't be able to run up the middle but the outside run kills them.

Re: ICC WEEK 1
Can anyone on here provide information on the Tyrone BA matchup. Have they been playing the first week for forever? These two are the top teams year in and out in that league, I would figure the heads would move this game back so that both teams are at their bests. I am predominately LHAC so I really don't know how the rivalry has played out
Re: ICC WEEK 1
Bellwood is ICC
Tyrone is MAC
I agree bbalum. Everett will be big and slow, which is why Jenny will run circles around them.

Re: ICC WEEK 1
5-1 this week with CK and Williamsburg being the game I lost.
My own personal rankings after week 1.
North
1. Glendale
2. Bellwood
3. Juniata Valley
4. Moshannon Valley
5. Claysburg
6. West Branch
Before you call me crazy and tell me that Glendale last beat Bellwood in 1918 and Bellwood was up against a top 10 AA team, I'll say I know that already. I'm just for this week saying Glendale is my #1 based on results.
South
1. Northern Bedford
2. Southern Huntingdon
3. Mount Union
4. Everett
5. Tussey Mountain
6. Williamsburg
The south went 2-4 this week with my top two teams winning. Mount Union had it rough by having to play Huntingdon, so I'm not sure on them yet either.
