LHAC Week 2.

Post by Crimson09Crazy »

Went 5-1 last week. My lone incorrect prediction was my Crushers letting me down. I didn't make the trip to Cresson, but from the sounds of things, McCort has a ton of work to do. Forest Hills,Central Cambria, and Johnstown had big time wins. And Bishop Carroll did pull off the upset, and maybe it wasn't an upset....They could be back?

Anywho week 2 rolls along....Lets get to it.

Cambria Heights at Bedford
Both teams are coming off less than impressive Week 1 games. Bedford lost to a very good Forest Hills team by 35. They are losing a lot from last year, but Marcus Shippey is back and he needs to step up his game this team to win. Bedford needs to establish a run game, and giving up 4 passing TD's to Forest Hills isn't a good way to start the season....Especially since Cambria Heights is going to try to pass the ball. Vescovi and co. weren't to great in week 1, but going against Bedford's athletes as opposed to Johnstown athletes might help the passing game. Neither team is going to have a ton of wins, and here is a perfect opportunity for a team to pick up one. I'm going to take Bedford because of the home field advantage.
Bisons 23 Highlanders 16

Bishop Guilfoyle at Johnstown
Johnstown came out and had an easy win in week 1, while Guilfoyle battled out an 8-2 win. Johnstown's Gervon Simon had an excellent first start, spreading the ball around and made some plays on his feet. He is going to be the real deal. He has targets in Watson and Anderson that can stretch the field. They still lack a go to back that can carry the load. I'm sure they are still going to try to fimd that guy. Guilfoyle had a tough time scoring the ball last week. And by reading the score they are either a good defense or Somerset was a bad offense. Thats a tough thing to pick out after only one week. But BG definitely has their work cut out for them.

Penn Cambria at Somerset
Penn Cambria opened the year with a big victory. They beat the Crushers. And they had a balanced attack, in which they were able to throw the ball a little bit with confidence behind Junior QB,Andrew Buck. Fuller is the other half of the attack who ran the ball really well. PC held McCort to 2 Touchdowns and held off their late rally. Somerset wasn't able to put up an offensive score in Week 1. They did muster a Safety for 2 points. Now they did hold BG to 8 points. So the defense could be good. Hard to say after 1 game.
I like Penn Cambria to start 2-0. Fetzer will have this team playing well all year long. Might be a Playoff team?

Bishop Carroll at Westmont
Well another season supposed to open with promise and it comes out with disappointment after one game. Westmont has an opportunity to play a big game at home against a good opponent to change things around. They have a good ground game and big boys up front, Wesmont needs to control the clock and run. Burnheimer and Popchak aren't bad backs. Glennon needs to limit his mistakes and just manage the game. Carroll, on the other hand opened with a big win. They played great defense in the 2nd half. Chumrik and Kephart key that defense. And Ryan Woo opened with a huge game for the Husky offense. He will be key in this game too. This kid is fast and I don't see Westmont being able to contain him. I think BC is back for good this year. I'll take the Huskies. Westy is heading the wrong way.

Central Cambria at Bishop McCort
The Red Devils started out slow and roared out to a big finish against Westmont. Blake Buzzard, the senior QB, was crucial to CC's comeback then dominating win over Westmont. He made plays with his legs and arm. Central Cambria has a good rushing attack with Wissinger and co. And the Defense shut out Westy in the 2nd half. CC is a good team. McCort lost to an LHAC team for the first time since 2007. They looked less than impressive in doing so. They weren't able to capitalize on turnovers. They couldn't put up a point in the 2nd half. I can't remember when McCort was shut out in a half in the regular season. They obviously have some work to do. These coaches will have to work harder then they ever have before to get McCort where they are supposed to be. McCort's offense really needs to get better.
Never done this before, I'm picking against McCort.

GAME OF THE WEEK
Forest Hills at Richland
The Battle of the Baileys....again. People love to hype up this battle, but its kind of lopsided. Dad and The Rangers own Son and the Rams. Don't expect things to be any different this year. The Rangers have all 3 backs that are capable of going for 100 any game. But a new wrinkle that was unexpected. QB Justin Gdula throwing for 4 TD's. This is a tough team to plan for. The Defense is always legit. Forest Hills is a force this year. The Rams opened the year with a disappointing loss to Bishop Carroll. Solarczyk has tough shoes to fill and he at least found a targets that will catch some balls for him, Flick and Hanley. Rizzo needs to be a bigger part of this offense. He is a big kid and may be the key to keep long possessions alive.
I don't think Richland can hang with Forest Hills.

A couple thoughts:

What day and time for BC @ Westy? I understand there is a reschedule because of the Jewish holiday Yom Kippur this week. I've heard Friday @ 4 pm, but......the Westy 9th grade moved their game to Tues., so is the varsity going to maybe play Thursday @ 4 instead of Friday? If someone knows for sure, please post it. Bedford knew coming into Sidman that the Ranger strength is its backs, and did their best to shut that down, limiting Dudukovich to 89 ? yards, but opening it up for Gdula's arm. People so soon forget, FH totally dominated several passing camps this preseason, so the aerial game is there if needed. I felt PC had the package to beat BM, and so does CC. BC -is- a legit darkhorse in the LHAC this year, and also 6A. Those previous 3 teams mentioned will determine the season for FH. Definitely a winning record, but what? 6-4, 7-3, 8-2, 9-1, ??? BM indeed loses this week, IMO. A long season for Kenny. Maybe the advertising budget needs to be increased. Or a couple more guys hired to increase the scope of their.......influence.
It ain't over until it's over.

After watching Bedford play FH, I'll take Heights over them. Outside of Shippey, they have NOBODY (and I mean nobody). Not only are their athletes subpar, but their schemes were horrible on defense and offense. If Myers puts together a decent game plan defensively Heights will win easily, because Bedfords defensive backs aren't stopping anyone this year.

BC @ Westmont 4:00 Friday Afternoon. The Jr. High game that was changed to Tuesday has now been postponed due to injuries and low numbers on the CC Jr. High squad. A make-up date for the Jr. high game will be announced at a later date.
