Re: Recruiting Roared its Head Last Night
Shocker, if you are trying to make a weak case that Pitt recruits to fit their system, then I'd say based on their results that the system isn't working. Pitt fans are the only fans I have ever encountered who have no interest in trying to figure out what the issues are with their program. There has to be a reason why your team can't win their conference. Aren't you curious as to why that might be? Of course you arent, you dont watch Pitt games, you watch Penn State games and b*tch and moan about Joe Paterno during the whole game. There really is no excuse as to why Pitt can get stud players accepted into their college and they still cannot win that conference. You are in a major talent hotbed, you have SOME tradition (even though the kids today have been born AFTER Terminator 2 was released and have no concept of Pitt football), you have an NFL head coach, you can use the Steelers as a marketing tool... Come on now. What school in the Big East can claim any of that? I guess USF is in a better recruiting area, but they are Option 4 in the state of Florida. There's reasons why Pitt sucks. And their lack of recruiting focus is definitely one of them. Losing those jack*** coordinators was a blessing for Pitt that will pay dividends, though.
If Pitt's system requires that they can't afford to use scholarships on offensive linemen, I would really like to get more details on how this system supposedly can operate.

nice spin emima but it isnt my job to figure it out nor does it really matter that much to me. It is out of my control so why should I worry about it?
I think you know what I mean and my point was proven. Thank you very much. Keep spinning!

Re: Recruiting Roared its Head Last Night
TAE nailed this one, as much as we Pitters don't like to admit that...Pitt recruits "the best players available" at any position, regardless of need. This results in excellent talent and depth at some positons, but MAC level talent and zero depth at others.
This has resulted in Pitt being very thin on depth AND talent at certain positions, namely OL, LB, and DB. However, Pitt has depth and talent as good as anyone in the country at RB, WR, and DL.
I think if Pinkston or Nix were to get injured, Pitt would seriously be in huge trouble offenisvely. The OL has no depth and MAC level talent across the line, save for Nix and Pinkston, both who I think will be pros. The same is true at LB. Dan Mason has NFL athleticism and speed, but has no clue how to play yet...but Gruder and the others are MAC level players. The same with the secondary, Reed and Gary could end up being good players, but it will take good coaching and a lot of hard work on their parts.
To Wanny's credit, next year's recruiting class includes two 4 stars at DB, so I see an effort to upgrade there. He needs to do a better job at OL (and LB), or at least look at JUCOs and try to find another Otah or two.

Re: Recruiting Roared its Head Last Night
I'm not that surprised he agrees with me bc Titan does follow Pitt pretty strongly, and theres clearly reasons why they cant get over the hump. The OL recruiting argument is as good as any others, I guess. I just dont understand why Wanny doesnt seem to understand the college game yet.

You pinheads act like Pit did not recruit OL??? in '09 they offered 3 OT's & 6 OG's. In 2010 they offered 3 OT's, 6 OG's & 3 Centers; in 2011 they have offered 7 OT's & 4 OG's all 3 star & above. You can't always get what you want! UPS snatched several OL away from Pitt in lst 3 yrs....Shrive, Ricketts, Graham, Daq Jones & Mangiro to name a few.

Re: Recruiting Roared its Head Last Night
No, YOU pinheads dont understand how to recruit. Teams that are considered elite, and then those who are "up there but arent elite yet", understand how to keep kids interested, so when their top targets commit elsewhere, there are other great options. These are Plan B recruits. Where are Pitt's? Are they just chasing 3 DTs or OGs when they need 3 and hoping for the best? Now you know why I want to suplex Paterno off the top of a cage sometimes.
The recruiting dynamics are very interesting.

Come to think of it, when Hynoski is in the backfield, it's essentially like having an extra lineman in the game. He's a devestating blocker and will be a pro.
