Get me up to speed.
Okay guys, no longer living in the area but I still frequent BC as you guys are aware.
Can someone get me up to speed on the following stuff? I would be much obliged.
Laurel Valley and Ligonier merger:
- Probably for the best, but sad to see it. Who is the new coach at LV and is this team legitimately good? Where do they play? Are they building a new school?
Windber - Shade - Richland?
- Can you even merge across counties lines? Whats the status of Windber and Shade?
West Shamokin to the Heritage?
- Why is this coming about, from THEIR standpoint? Why leave and join the Heritage? Is Apollo to follow?
Any update on Indiana to the LHAC?
- Why should the LHAC take Ligonier Valley and not court some other schools first, if the Ridge rumors are true and they need a LH expansion partner?

Ligonier and Laurel Valley merged. Laurel tried to fight it,but nothing they could do.... but the Ligonier Coach, Roger Bietdel remained. They play in Ligoneir, and i don't think a new building is coming.
Are they good for Heritage? Yes. They should make the playoffs playing a bunch of A schools but will get worked by any good LHAC or MAC AA teams.

Windber - Shade - Richland?

Not from area and not heard any rumors of Windber or any other merges...But like all the old coal/steel areas would not be surprised...I am thinking we may see more Armstrong school districts. It is one district but has 4 high schools, kittaning, Elderton, Ford city and West Shamokin I believe, In the mid 90's they combined them all into Armstrong central and were a 4-a school for 2 or 4 years...I think we may see districts combine middle and high schools but have a high school "per community" but combine the school boards.
West Shamokin to the Heritage?

They are one of the forementioned high schools in the Armstrong district. and as Elderton high school and the dissolution of Amrstrong Central high proved these districts want thier own school...That said WS is Shannock and Dayton i believe. It was hard enough to combine but what has not made things easier is in 5 or so years of their existance thier football (marquis sport) has been bad in D-9 but they are really getting pummeled in WPIAL AA. They want some school pride but can't gain it getting trounced and I think thier numbers are getting low 18-25 maybe for football as interest wanes. they are competitive in other sports except football. They believe they have a better chance against the size and populations of the Heritage...The Heritage has also invited them... I think Apollo should really consider it. They are a natural fit, but WPIAL "pride" will stop them, they think they are in the "best" and they think they will eventually win in the "best" league that is D-7...They never had a great winning tradition and they seem to be mired in the pitts since the early 2000's. I think economically they fit also, I venture to guess thier average road trip will go down, this is especially true come basketball time.
Any update on Indiana to the LHAC?
I think the Indians stay in D-7...I think if maybe the bigger schools in D-6 banded together there would be a good D-6 big school league...But with Altoona and Hollidaysburg bowing out of a hodgepodge schedule and opting for the long but stable trips of WPIAL football, I don't thing Indiana wants to play a comparable sized johnstown and A and AA teams.
...Just my take on the landscape

Re: Get me up to speed.
Very good post Big Ike. to answer some earlier questions you can merge across county lines. This did happen a few times in the 60's. Apollo and Elder's Ridge (Young Twp., Indiana County) merged to form Apollo Ridge.
Re: Get me up to speed.
Blairsville / Saltsburg spans two counties...Indiana and Westmoreland. Students from Conemaugh TWP in Westmoreland attend Saltsburg.
