Who offered him a D1 baseball scholarship? If a D1 did, which I doubt, I can just about guarantee you that it was a small amount, maybe a few thousand dollars.

Fully funded D1s can only offer 11.7 full scholarships, which are divided up among approximately 30 players. It's rare that a baseball player receives a full 4 year scholarship, unless its at some big SEC or school in the south where alums pay the way for players through endowments.

I didn't say that my source said Gallegher was D3 at best, reread what I wrote,...I said D2 at best, and he'd be an excellent D3 player in basketball.

McConnell was a very good HS player (for this region) with mid to lower level D1 talent. I have a hard time believing that Gallagher should even be mentioned in the same sentence at TJ Mcconnell. If you want to see major D1 athleticism and talent from a HS frosh, take a look at the Thorpe video I posted above.

My source says he's a pretty solid baseball player, but would be better off at a D2 where he could play immediately. In baseball, with the draft and all the scouting that takes place, if you're talented enough and you show arm, speed, fielding, hitting for average, and hitting for power, you'll get looked at by MLB scouts, whether you go to LaRoche or Arkansas.

As I said, some D1 school would take him in track. he could learn all 3 jumps and compete indoors and outdoors, maybe earning a full ride his last 2 years.

I heard the local scuttlebutt about LG & D1 baseball. Don't exactly recall, but I believe he was checked out several times by someone like E. Carolina. Don't hold me to that, but I THINK that's who it was. Also don't think he's going to be playing baseball in his future.
It ain't over until it's over.

"Checked out"? The Burgh said he was offered a D1 scholarship and declined. Define scholsrship, Burgh...partial? From what I hear about his talent level (which is good for that area, BTW, not knocking him, but there's a WORLD of difference between D1 college baseball and the12 game season in the ELHACK where players gets pulled hammys, sore arms, play games in snow, and squeeze in makeup games by playing 6 days in a row, if the weather cooperates),I would strongly suggest that he call that coach immediately and accept.

WPIAL Tital - I did reread your post and the next line after mentioning Luke Gallaher's track ability your sources say he's a D2 player at best, probably D3 in hoops and baseball. Anyway, I enjoy reading your insightful posts, but I recommend that if you have not seen LG play basketball, you may want to watch his game to get your own evaluation. It is very rare that District 6 produces a D1 talent in basketball, so when a player with D1 athleticism and ability such as LG comes along, and a post states he is "probably D3 in hoops and baseball" - that is either ignorance or jealousy.

played against both he and miller, Jordan was better. And Jordan is playing D2, a very good D2 school at that.

Good comparison, crimson...I have heard the same thing from others. He'd be best off to go D1 in track as a jumper.

Burgh I watched him play and do not see it. He is very good, but for this area. Maybe somebody is misleading you. As for hoops, he would struggle to play at IUP. When we say Division I, I hope we are not talking about the likes of Pitt, WVU, Villanova........

If East Carolina (baseball) was interested in him wouldn't you think Wake Forest, TCU, Virginia and Florida who all have PA ties on staff would be interested. East Carolina is some pretty serious baseball!! I cannot imagine Coach Godwin offering a full ride to a player who really didn't dominate the LHAC on the diamond.
It was also mentioned that he is the ninth rated baseball player in the Commonwealth of PA according to MLB Scouts, where is that list? Who told you that and how can it be proven?

I want to conclude that this kid is a very talented athlete but I too think Track and Field is where he should concentrate.

Is he a 7ft high jumper? If not he may have trouble going div 1!

I have been reading this and did a thorough search on this player. I was told that it was due to his amazing speed was why the baseball teams were interested. How fast does he run the 60 yard dash in?

Hoffman (Greater Johnstown) and Spaid (Portage) both played at St. Francis (PA) the big difference is size, they are big. We are talking about a 5'11" player at best. Same with Miller from CC, they are not very tall. One of the best players I watched from this area in the past 10 years in hoops who had some size and great talent was Drew Shubik from North Star. He played college ball at Sacred Heart. He does not get the recognition I guess because he came out of the WestPAC.
