Lets not forget Dan Fortson who played at altoona till transferring to Shaler. There have also been quite afew others who have played big time ball from the altoona area!

Burgh - You are comparing a high school kid to a guy who played in the NBA.

I again ask where you get your information 6.49. Were you there? Did you see this or told this? Who compiles the running times to make that the fastest in the state? MLB doesn't do that, scouts do not do that!!!

The next thing will be Paterno and Wannstedt are battling for him.

Burgh do you think he is better than Cale Nelson (former St. Francis Guard from Big Springs High School from Newville, PA). I thought that kid (5'11") was tough for the Red Flash.

I think Gallaher he is an excellent athlete but I get sick of hearing these DI comments and crazy running times. Burgh sorry you might be his Dad, I don't know!!

I wish the best for the kid, he's home in bed and I am debating about him at 12:10 in the morning, I must be nuts!! Goodnight!

Prince - I am comparing Mike and Luke as 17 year old high school players only. Mike certainly excelled at the college and pro level. Nobody knows how Luke will eventually develop. I agree I am tired of this subject - I only gave my initial opinion because I read people doubting Luke's ability.

I have seen Cale Nelson play many times as a senior and he was a good player at St. Francis (an outstanding passer), but he was 21-22 yrs old and Luke is 17.

Prince - one other thing - I laughed at your comment about Paterno and Wanny wanting him. However, after he won the state high jump championship, he did receive calls from Penn State, Duke and Temple regarding football even though he has never played competitively.

Finally, I am not his dad - just a person who believes in his talent.

Regarding his high jump future: Remember, he was convinced to try out for his track team as a jumper by his frosh sister, with whom he trained. He jumped in TWO regular season meets, won them, qualified for districts, won them with a 6-7 jump, and went to states and won there with a 6-6 jump. RAW talent. Waiting to be developed. He's no Dwight Stones, but can he do better? Why not. The potential for higher is there. You hear it all the time in the pro's where someone excelled in a sport, but gained greater fame in another. Off the top of my head, Antonio Gates. Hoops to football.
It ain't over until it's over.

Burgh this is even more ridiculous, you are telling me Duke University finds out who Pennsylvanias high jump champion is and calls him up??? How's this one Joe Paterno picks up the news paper and says to Tom Bradley "hey Tom this kid can really jump but doesn't play football give him a call". What do they say when they call him, can you catch too?
Your comments just don't add up in my mind.

I wish this kid all the best in the world. With that said a 6' 7" high jump isn't div 1 stuff. Now if he does improve, and in the high jump that is not a given maybe then.I will say this, never ever underestimate an athlete with a great work ethic.I say just let it all play out!

I heard Tom Bradley was at the District 6 Track & Field championships at Mansion Park to see a relative - I assume that is how he saw Luke compete. In football recruiting, colleges will send hundreds of letters out to prospective student-athletes in order to make contact. Even though a school will only fulfill 15-25 football scholarships in any given year. Colleges are always looking for preferred walk-ons and if a college can get a quality athlete with ? potential at no cost why wouldn't they at least make contact. Deon Butler did pretty well at PSU as a walk-on without receiving much interest from other schools - PSU was simply intrigued by his athletic ability even though he weighed only 165 lbs in high school.

Correct me if Im wrong but didn't a guy from Cal win this years high jump with a jump of 6'7 in the D1 championships?

LG is probably a D2 bball player at best, Maybe high D3. D1 high jumper, maybe. Prob. D2 here as well.
As for baseball, I cant say. I do know that he hasn't been offered any full rides for a D1 baseball school. Maybe a partial but not a full ride. I agree with old guy, let it play out. Its nice to see a kid excel in 3 sports. He needs to be commended on doing this.

College football coaches are always at the state track and field meet. Usually looking at the throwing events for big lineman and also at the sprinters for skill people.

I don't know if you're drunk or unintelligent. You know you spelled "stocker" wrong on your signature though right, dummy? KirkHerbstreit

Someone said Miller is a better player than Gallaghar.
I just wanted to make the point that although Miller averaged more points and was all-state, Gallaghar has much greater POTENTIAL and ATHLETICISM, making him a more valuable recruit. You see this a lot in football.. the really solid lineman will get d3-d2 interest, but the very average/very large kid gets d1-aa-d1a interest. It's all about potential. Gallaghar's athleticism is unlike anyone else in the LHAC. IMHO he is a little too wiry and needs to put on some muscle to be a good college guard. The dilema is, will that hurt his jumping ability in track? Big decisions ahead for the kid..

As far as the football interest.. give me a break. It's no secret that football schools will contact everyone and their mother with any kind of potential before their senior year. When someone calls around signing day, then let me know.
