say_oww wrote:Hey southpaw, so you just "nominate" a team and they could be a "mythical" champion. I nominate Ferndale and Shade for every year from 1896 to present because that is the only way they are ever going to get one.

I don't get it, from 1988-present their have been four state champions each year. What is the point of this?
Not my list.

Shade had a real good team in 1981 that might have been state champ contenders in A. The Barnes Bros were the real deal.

Ferndale did win a state title in 1960 under the alias "Ampipe" didn't they?

saw oww, if richland coaches threw ALOT of passes against BC, please inform why? Why did it take such outstanding coaches a whole game to realize that they HAVE no QB or WRs, and, as you simply havent noticed, their strength IS their running backs and line on offense this year. This team has a ton of talent, just NOT at the positions bailey wishes(QB and WRs)

Your right, by doing a ton of blassts and a few zone read plays against a weak Beford team, he clearly showed what a tremendous offensive guru he is. Maybe if he actually had an offensive running scheme, and put his best athletes in the best position to make plays, people would see the effort and not complain. Instead they see a lazy offense that their truly is nothing to. Perhaps instead of spending countless days involved in passing camps/leagues, time could have better been spent setting up an run game that actually has rhythm, timing, and even a little deception.

Hopefully I am wrong, Richland is not content with doing the same things they have been doing, and actually IMPROVES in every facet, wins out, and makes a playoff run. I wouldnt count on it.

If richland does work in some short and QB friendly passing, with some more option/zone read looks, and even some motion/jet sweep plays, it can really do wonders for their running game. Without their spread passing game opening up the run, they NEED to find other ways to do so if they want to make any noise this year.

also, just to point it out, richland has 11 kids over 200 pounds(vs 4 on MCCORT), along with 16 kids 6 foot(8 on mccort) There goes the classic Richland coach excuse that its their SIZE that holds them back.

You can beg to differ all you want. The first year that a state champion was crowed was in 1988. I don't care what a sign in Windber says. There were no state playoffs prior to 1988.
Just because you don't recognize anything that went on before 1988,it doesn't mean that they weren't state champs. So when I drive through Windber and see a state championship claimed I respect that they have one.Give respect to your elders especially when they achieved something that many many others haven't!
It's not that I don't recognize peoples achivements before 1988 its just a fact that there were no state championships played. You can say you were a state champion all you want it doesnt make it so.

If we go by the bogus list there are a lot of teams in this area that have won "state championships" which pretty much blows out your original point way back at the beginning of this thread that said they were the only ones to win one. By the list Johnstown has six.

By the way that list is from PAfootballnews and if you read the article it says if you feel anyone else should be nominated please email me.

the 1982 Shade team was actually the better team that went 10-0 and won the old A.C. Bowl the 1981 team lost 21-6 to Saltsburg in the A.C. Bowl. (I realize this has nothing to do with Richland)

Maybe Richland should consider getting rid of 18-19 of those "volunteer" coaches they have there. For the life of me I can't think of having a 2 hour practice after school and listening to 25 coaches. It's got to be a circus up there!

Actually I never heard of this list.I however have seen the sign in windber for many many years referring to the state championship they won.I am sure it predates this list.I would also bet they had a way to determine the champ back in the day.I would love to hear the story from someone who knows.Anyhow back to the richland saga!
