There are too many dang teams in D1 football.

Those scholarships are being stretched and stretched and stretched. When you spread the talent this thin, you see teams get beaten time and time again. Boise State will now probably be the number one team in the Nation, and they play a 1-game schedule. So now we will have to hope 2 1-loss teams get in there to make that national title game worth a ****.

Everyone doesn't suck, there are too many dang teams. Think about this. 10-15 years ago there were like 110 D1 teams. Now there are 120. 10 x 85 is 850. That's just for a 4 year cycle. 850 kids playing scholarship football that never would have been playing scholarship football otherwise. The talent is way too thin nowadays. I'm so tired of hearing about "this is a down year in college football" and "look how everyone can beat everyone". Look, everyone beating everyone is not quality parity when the teams are substandard.

I'm actually glad I worked 14 hrs today and did not see one single snap of college football. This sport is getting worse constantly, it is never getting any better.

No one is great, and its not b/c of all this supposed parity, its b/c theres kids on scholarship at every school in the country who should not be d1 scholarship athletes.

Trust me, I love the fact that 1700 kids were given essentially free educations over 8 years, whereas they should NOT have been given those free educations, but the quality of the sport has diminished in that process.

Did you just see that number? 1700!

Name me a scenario, other than 1700 chicks in a bedroom, where adding 1700 people is a great idea and improves a situation.

Now we are going to sit by as Boise plays in a national championship game after playing a 1-game season. And Nevada lost to Air Force last night. But that is shocking and "wow! anyone can beat anyone!"

This is absolutely heading towards AYSO soccer and not many people are able to see the roadsigns up ahead.

Nevada lost to Hawaii, but that's not the point. I don't disagree that the product is down a little bit right now. However, if the NCAA had a playoff system, would it matter? This all could be easily solved with a playoff system, but that's not happening. It is what it is and you just have to live with it.

Frankly, I'm not at all against a "watered down" football league. I like the fact that there is more balance throughout all the conferences. I understand the TAE's point that it essentially makes the national championship a little less impressive, but it makes it more entertaining (for me personally anyway) to watch every week. And Deliverance has a point to...wouldn't a having a playoff system seem to be the logical next step for the NCAA?

I dont think a playoff helps anything at all when all the teams are weaker in 2010 than they were in 1990.

I'm not going to be an advocate of the cinderella story at the expense of all the quality going down. Sure, Boise winning is a great story. But I'd rather see Boise win that title against 69 other schools instead of 119 other ones.

Did you guys see the WAC's plan of expansion? They are looking at adding more I-AA members to fill those vacancies. Georgia Southern is also going I-A. If the WAC is able to elevate UT San Antonio, Texas State, and Cal Poly, plus Georgia Southern, that's 123 schools. That is 255 more scholarships. Are there another 255 kids nationally who deserve to be on D1 rosters?

Wait, Villanova. Make that 340.

Guys, seriously, kids who play for Northern Cambria should not have offers to Texas. I'm sorry if that's insensitive. But you cannot tell me that there are 340 more kids who deserve to be on division 1 rosters.

All it is doing to making everyone worse.

There are already people who think the MLB is too watered down. People are against NHL expansion because they feel the league is already spread too thin. Imagine if we added 10 more teams to major league baseball or the NHL.

It's a great story when a kid at Tussey Mountain gets an offer to play at Washington State, but let's not sacrifice the league in order to do it.

I kind of understand your concern: but, lets say a kid from TM does get an offer to play at Wazzu, that really isn't affecting how Oregon is going to recruit because they will still be able to bring top level recruits. Which would mean that the top schools would still be at the top and wouldn't that actually create more seperation between the top schools vs the lower tier schools?
