In my opinion, a huge difference between the Penguin teams that reached the cup finals and the current/last year teams is winning puck battles. Last night Mihalek lost a puck battle in the defensive end to 43 year old MArk Recchi. Inexcusable. The Pens used to be all over the puck in the offensive end, but lately have been lazy in puck pursuit. Last night however, they played well in the offensive zone. It just has not resulted in a win.

Here is what i feel is wrong. This team as constructed was built to be strong down the Middle and be a matchup nightmare for teams. 3 strong centers and a strong goalie. A lot of money was paid to those 4 positions. Aproximately 27 million. Leaving little to be spent on the wings. Here is the results

8.7 Crosby - Awesome. can;t ask for more

8.7 Malkin - One Minute he looks like the greatest player in the game. The next game he looks disinterested. Sometimes it seems like he has regressed from the cup years.

4.0 Staal - Injured

5.5 Fleury - Fragile, rebound Machine, Flopper. Makes a great save from time to time which is normally the result of a bad rebound. Gets caught out of Position ALOT. has played quite a few great games but probably plays more that leave you scratching your head.

Alot of money has been spent down the middle. They are getting night in and night out results from 8.7 million of it. That should tell you alot.
