Re: How dominant is Clairton?
The premise of the arguement is that a district 5 allstar team couldn't beat clairton. I think some don't realize how many schools and athletes there are in district 5.Controlled enrollment is exactly what privates can do.Take only a certain number of kids so you control your classification.Thusly you offer a superior program that wins year in and year out and competes for state titles. It attracts athletes from within its borders from multiple school districts, in this example district 5 with hopes of getting a piece of a title. Its done in many places.Once the foundation of a good private program is built it cripples the other area schools by pilfering their best athletes and forming an allstar team that basically breaches the rules that the PIAA has set up.That is your controlled enrollment answer.bbsocceralumni wrote:In that case with those schools D5 would be AAAA. Still wouldn't beat a team like Woodland Hills, PCC, LaSalle, etc. How can you control enrollment?
Re: How dominant is Clairton?
Give me a D5 all star team (of just the D5 final four) and I'd like their chances of beating Clairton. It would be tough to run on a team that had Suter, Byers, and Sayler running around on defense. The DL would be pretty stinking good too. If I had a team with Sayler in the slot and T Strasiser at WR...
QB- Max Strasiser
RB- Preston Albright
FB- Dillon Troutman
Slot- Ian Sayler
Flanker- Tony Strasiser
OL- Suter, Sollenberger, Rigo, Zerfoss, ??? Berlin's best
TE- Wilie Sollenberger
DL- Hixson, Zerfoss, Weaver
LB- Suter, Byers, ??
DE- Sollenberger, Craig
DB- Sayler, Lynch, Strasiser?
That's quite a group of athletes. Clairton has their studs for sure, but I wouldn't be afraid to put this group together and go play them.

Re: How dominant is Clairton?
good point. Would like to see how well a Private Catholic school would do if there was just 1 in district 6. Move BM, BC, and BG to a central location(BC perhaps except faculties arent good) Would be interesting, and some forward thinking as the enrollments keep dwindling, along with saving a TON of money. But the Catholic church and the diocese arent exactly known for progressive thinking. Even a BC/BM combined school, maybe at Vo tech or some combination of VO tech/mccort/and BC would be interesting. (create a middle school, use all facilities) AA school most likely, that would also do some big state competing
But as we know, our parts arent exactly none for consolidation by any means public or private, but in the future combining the private schools and a few public would be a big plus in many respects, at least i think so.

Re: How dominant is Clairton?
My thoughts exactly coach. I don't think any A school in the state could run the ball against that D. Besides, Desimon Green throws ducks. Now on the defensive side I'm sure he's a monster, but he doesn't throw the nicest ball...

Re: How dominant is Clairton?
Am I the only one to notice that there is a significant slant towards NBC players in Coach's lineup? Looks like the staff at Northern is very confident going into the championship match-up with North Star.
Re: How dominant is Clairton?
6 from North Star on my list
6 from Berlin on my list
8 from NB on my list
1 from CT on my list
1 ??? on my list so if it is a Berlin or NS kid, things are even more even.
Look at who is still playing and that doesn't seem unreasonable to me at all. Would it be better if I picked all non NB kids and showed no faith in them?
You, are someone involved with NB or in the know here... and you try to cause trouble and rip NB a good bit. How did you know so much about Eric Grace in baseball and his pap who pitched a no hitter in 1960something??
Don't be shocked to see Albright and Suter on the All-State team when it gets released. Suter is a Big 33 nominee. (Sayler should be too). On the O line, I put two NB guys. They've blocked for a kid with 1800+ yards. Who would you pick?
NB's offense is scoring nearly 40 PPG, their defense is allowing less than 9 PPG. NB is the highest seed remaining and undefeated. Should I pick 4 guys from there and 8 each from the others? Especially in a list made just for fun about a team that would take on Clairton.
Anyway, maybe BBSocceralum will post who he'd pick because I know he has seen NB on film (Maybe the YouTube videos but I know he said he has seen film of them). I went through MaxPreps and looked at lots of stats as I made the decisions. The hardest one to pick is LB and defense because some schools have inflated tackles stats. You can log in to Maxpreps and see that...some teams average 90 tackles a game and some average 65. It all depends on the stat guy and how he enters it and records it.
I bet BB or a NS person would have things slanted a little in their favor as well because that's how it is.
ICC All Stars I believe NB had 7 guys on defense as first teamers and 3 as honorable mentions.
I think they had 7 guys on offense and 1 honorable mention.
Bedford Gazette All Stars (when released), there are 10 of the 33 or so guys from NB.
We're having a nice year to this point and no matter what happens Friday, it was a very good year for NB football.

Re: How dominant is Clairton?
Are you smoking something Coach? Lynch at CB? He is very slow and never turns around for the ball? How about Stockwell, Colin Bryan? Your list is too NBC dominant, sorry. If you are so high on Albright what colleges are looking at this kid? He isn't that big or has lightning quick speed. I still think with the team you have D5 would lose by 3 touchdowns. Speed kills this team.

Re: How dominant is Clairton?
Bottom line: An all star team for District 5A would get hammered by Clairton, unless they were allowed to put 12 players on the field to Clairton's 11.
Watch Desimon Green in a few weeks on TV (or come over and watch him play live) and tell me if D5A has ever had an athlete like him in their history, much less this year. The kid is 6'5" 245 lbs, rock solid, and runs a 4.6. Watch some of the other specialists from that Clairton team too.
A 5A all-star team would get run down the hall, out the door, off the field, and back to PA Route 36 North by Clairton, and I don't even have to see the 5A players play (even though I've seen some of the NBC youtube videos, which BTW look like Clairton playing in quicksand) because I know what they have out there year in and year out and I know what Clairton has.
Coach, if you're as smart as you think you are, you will vacate Dreamland and agree with me.

He doesn't throw the nicest ball but gets the job done. Just remember he is being recruited for DE.S Cube wrote:My thoughts exactly coach. Re: How dominant is Clairton?
I didn't include anyone other than the top 4 teams from the semis.
Lynch had 4 picks so I picked him. As I said, I just used stats from the final 4 teams. I even put Max back there because I think he'd make a heck of a corner.
Albright has nearly 1900 yards and 35 touchdowns. Who would you pick? Putting Sayler at WR with Strasiser would be unreal.
How fast is he? Not far behind Logan Zimmerman. He would lose by probably a full second behind your brother in the 100. He is a track kid too but I don't have his numbers or Ian's in front of me.
I guess I just shouldn't have posted. I am not the newspaper and only picked quickly for a little fun regarding what the post was talking about.
