They will score, they could possibly lead for a while at the beginning of the game with a slow start from Clairton/Roch, and the final score will be closer than most on this board assume. Of course the WPIAL champion will be a huge favorite, but given the right set of circumstances, bigger upsets have happened.
I was really impressed with the way North Star handled Northern Bedford. NB really came out flat at the beginning of the game and looked unprepared for the NS passing game. North Star has relied heavily on the pass all season, so I was shocked that it appeared to catch the Panthers by surprise. Not having a true QB definately hurt NB, but so did the defense. North Star played a much better game than I expected, and really came through on being more prepared for big games having played the tougher schedule all season.
You sir, still believe in Santa. Please do not compare Northern Bedford with one of the best single A squads in the state, maybe in state history, two straight title game appearances and about to be three is alot different than beating some D5 teams. By the time they play North Star, they will have play 2 of the top ten teams in the state.

NS probley can't compete with Clar. but if they show up play their best game ever and get the worst game from Clar. they could win. I don't see it happening, but if you play the game anything can happen.

Saw these on PennLive:
Clairton vs Bishop Canevin
Clairton vs Springdale
After Rochester, the only team that even has the potential to stop them in my opinion is Southern Columbia, and that's IF Southern gets by Riverside out in the East. Those aren't cupcakes in those videos either; Bishop Canevin finished 8-3 with a win over Avonworth, and Springdale was state ranked and finished 10-2. Good luck Cougars, you're going to need it!

I know this much, alot of the same people who are ripping on North Star in this game have picked other heavy favorites only to watch them lose in the past.Should the number one ranked team in single A beat North Star? Of course. If I am North Star I remember the Serra game a few years back.I also remember the recent success that little distrcit 5 has had in basketball against the mighty WPIAL.Nobody but the kids and a very few local fans gave these teams a snow balls chance in hades either.Of all the teams out there in district 5 single A I think North Star has what they need to make a game of it.They can pass the ball and they have a big line, they also have a decent running game and aren't one dimensional.Good luck North Star, don't listen to the hype!

Clairton is just too fast for North Star. This team is a lot of better than last years team. That is scary. North Star's strengths play into Clairtons strengths. As far as the Serra team, they weren't even close to the caliber of this Clairton team. Mark it down, the game will be over at half. This week off will hurt the Cougars mightily.

The only thing that will slow down the Bears will be the drop off in hype from the WPIAL championship to a first round game. If North Star only loses by 2-3 scores I'd say that's pretty successful. Bonus points if they don't get shutout.

maybe the long bus ride and that sweet somerset smell of cow pastures might just give the cougars a lil edge.. may not be enough though but thats why you play the game eh?
Re: North Star vs clariton/rochester winner
It was the ninth shutout of the season for Clairton, which ranks first in Pennsylvania allowing only 26 points in 13 games. The Rams had only 64 yards on 44 offensive plays.
Good luck north star, you'll need it...

There is no way North Star will score unless the game is 40+ and jv is in. Coles and Page will shut down Straisser and Watkins.
