Wrestling officiating
Wrestling officiating
Just watching the Channel 6 news- they showed UPJ's match from tonight.
College officials call pins probably 10x faster than high school officials. Are they taught that way? Is the rule different from college to high school in terms of what a pin is?
I'm not criticizing anyone around here. It is just a huge difference I've noticed and wondered about it.

As soon as the shoulder hits the mat its a pin in college

Re: Wrestling officiating
High school usually gives a 1 count I believe.
Re: Wrestling officiating
2 second count in HS
1 second count in college
touch fall in international
1 second count in college
touch fall in international
Re: Wrestling officiating
I still don't get it. You see kids get stuck on their back for 30 seconds sometimes and the ref waits for that perfect spot and often misses it. The college officials seem to nail you as soon as you get on your back. You don't see them reaching under and trying to feel shoulder blades like you do in high school. I like the college style better. I think it opens the refs up to less criticism.

S Cubed...
You should really consider getting your wrestling officials license. You have the both the knowledge and mentality to not get overwhelmed as many officials do.
It is a neat way to stay connected and with wrestling, it is a cheap way to get a workout.
Good young officials are hard to come by and you could easily fill one of those spots...
Put that on your to-do- list for 2011....Ha. ha.
