Weather & Practice
Weather & Practice
I was just wondering how the weather and school closings is going to affect practice for Forest Hills and Bishop Carroll?
If I remember correctly, they aren't allowed to hold practice if the school is closed correct?

I was wondering the same thing...
I think you're right...If the school is closed ALL school functions are canceled.
This will put the Rangers two days behind! Thank goodness the game is on Saturday.

No rules said the kids can't get together and do what they want (practice)

That same practice used to go on with pre camp. You didn't have to go but it was in your best intrest. It was also lead by the seniors.

Re: Weather & Practice
A few thoughts...
#1...Most districts have policies that do not allow the buildings to be open for events (including athletic practices) if the weather is inclement enough to close school. I am sure that exceptions can/will be made depending on timelines of game, actualy weather at the present time (ie-sometimes weather is bad at 9AM and is OK by 3PM).
#2...This whole thing illustrates one thing that I have contended all along: HS football season in PA is far FAR TOO LONG. The first practice this year was August 9, and the PIAA championship games will be December 17-18. Playing high school football games in late December is insane. PA's HS football season is longer than a D-1A collegiate season in tersm of the number of games for those who go deep into the playofffs.
A 9 game regular season, with much shorter playoffs instead of the 16 team crapshoots some districts have (where 2-7 and 3-6 teams make "playoffs") where the season end by December 1 makes the most sense to me.

Re: Weather & Practice
I'm on one of the teams still playing and couldn't be happier to still be playing football, and most kids who are not going to play at the collegiate level would love to have as many games as they can before they are done, the more, the merrierWPIAL~Titan wrote:A few thoughts...

Re: Weather & Practice
Did anyone drive by Sidman or Ebensburg today and see these kids out practicing?
Re: Weather & Practice
Not sure, but.....if FH calls off school, is the fieldhouse still open to the public if they can get there? If so, any FH kids that want to work out on their own would have the fieldhouse as a place to practice. Never used the place myself, but maybe one of you knows.
It ain't over until it's over.

Re: Weather & Practice
Bishop Carroll is definitely practicing today. At work, parents from Carroll have told me that their basketball teams practice all the time during school closings. I wouldn't think football in the STATE playoffs is any different.
Re: Weather & Practice
I did, it's 18 freakin degrees in Ebensburg with a 20 mile an hour wind blowing. Sponsky's jeep is there and the parking lot is full, but nobody was on the practice field, my guess is that they are in the gym doing walkthroughs but that is speculation on my part.SRV wrote:Did anyone drive by Sidman or Ebensburg today and see these kids out practicing?
