Re: WESTMONT, Worse team in the LHAC
Johnstown could win the state championship and this ahole would say the competition was weak. In another thread he said they haven't beaten anyone in ten years. When I said they beat two WPIAL teams on their way to the state title game he came up with some lame excuse about AAA not being good, blah blah blah.WPIAL~Titan wrote:If you're going to insult a team, at least get the spelling correct. Westmont wouldn't be the "worse" team you've seen, they'd be the "worst" team you've seen.
Also, please let me know when Johnstown plays, let alone defeats a credible team this season.
I think from now on ignoring this guy is the best thing.
How big of a loser are you to get your kicks coming on to a D6/D5 board and bashing them and talking up your Titans?
By the way, Shaler football beat 4 teams with winning records the past ten years.
I apologize if I don't take your word on this, I've seen some of your fearless forecasts before, but I suppose everyone is entitled to their own opinion. At least go and watch Shaler play before you make a statement like that.Crimson09Crazy wrote:Johnstown ain't beating Shaler. With or without Watson.

You take anything anti Johnstown too personal.
1. Shaler's best player, I've seen his Youtube reels. Thats enough for me to know. Johnstown doesn't have anyone that can guard him.
2. Shaler plays teams their own size.
3. Johnstown just lost their best player, and they have no depth.
You can make a case for your Trojans, but theyre a Big fish in a little pond.
And my friend I did state yesterday Johnstown was the best team in the district, until the transfer.
And hey the fearless forecast is in Football, which I know next to nothing about.

I really don't. I've been critical of Johnstown many times. Reread some of my posts about defensive coordinator Neil Cobaugh, who also happens to be the bball coach. Also said many times they should have hired Romans assistant. I also think that entering the UPJ tourney is pointless. They should try and schedule something else out of the area with better competition.Crimson09Crazy wrote:You take anything anti Johnstown too personal.

As far as the big fish in a little pond comment, all you are doing is talking down every other school in this area. Johnstown just beat a team with over 900 boys in their high school. Johnstown has 379. Johnstown is a heck of a lot closer in enrollment to the schools in the LHAC then they are to Altoona or State College. Johnstown plays two of the three teams bigger than them in the district. If they joined the WPIAL people would complain they are wasting taxpayer money traveling when they could be playing teams closer. JHS will always be in a no win situation here in District 6.
Playing teams your own size doesn't mean anything if the teams you are playin are no good. Have you looked at the records of the teams Shaler has beaten? The beat North Allegheny when they were still playing football and the beat a smaller 6-3 AAA team Montour. Also beat an 0-10 AAA Ambridge team. To top it all off they beat a SINGLE A team! How dare they play smaller schools!?! 4 of their 9 games so far have been against smaller schools in lower classes. I know that will change once they get into league play but what the truth is now is almost half of their games have been against smaller schools.

Not saying JHS would beat Shaler but I'm not saying they would definitely lose either.

I hate speculation on which teams will be which, when they will never play. Shaler is good, Jtown is good. What we do know is that Westmont is not good that is a fact. Check the teams they played and lost to. Not very impressive Westy, not impressive at all. hahahaha

Its not about non conference games. Its the league you play in, And I don't fault Johnstown for that, just how the geography of it all works.
I mean I'm going to be straight forward on this, District 6 is weak this year. Weak as I can ever remember. Big Fish in a little pond, It is what it is.
Then look at Shaler's conference. They'll be playing teams their own size. Johnstown playing A and AA teams all year during league play isn't going to help them beat AAA teams in the playoffs. No debate there. The football team experienced that the past two years. As did the Basketball team. Johnstown is smart to play Altoona and State regularly. Playing up is smart for playoff games down the road, just the fact of the matter is you only get 6 non league games. They play the 2 big boys. played North Star and Tussey two smaller teams, and Northern Cambria Only two of their games prepare them against the stiff competition that states brings you. Somerset and Forest Hills are AAA for Basketball. But realistically, they are both non playoff teams if they are in other districts. So the problem with Johnstown being a AAA team is, they don't get to play teams they'll need to beat down the line.
I think it would be wise in the future for Johnstown to use their non conference games more carefully.
Altoona and State College are good teams to schedule.
Maybe they should ask UPJ to bring in an Aliquippa or Jeanette or quality WPIAL team in for the Mountain Cat Tournament.
Then look to play maybe 1 wpial 3A-4A team and mayeb a team from down in Harrisburg.
Just a thought, I'm not saying anything bad about Johnstown, just offering up what I think can help them. D6 gets a bad reputation when their champions lose to 5-6 seeds from other districts. As a whole it needs to be changed.

I've been wondering why UPJ doesnt bring in a WPIAL team. They use to do it all the time. The last team they had there was Greensburgh Central Catholic about 5 years ago.Crimson09Crazy wrote:Its not about non conference games. Why have both McCort and JHS in the tourney? What good does it do to have them possibly play three times a year?
With the geography the way it is there is not much Johnstown can do. Look, I played football back in the day when we played in the WPIAL. I loved it. Wish we were still there, but we are not. It is what it is. The kids play who is on their schedule.
Think about this. When Paul Litwalk was the bb coach he was also the athletic director. They were in the old Mid Alleghenies Conference with Altoona, Hollidaysburg, BM, BG, State College. That left over half a schedule to try and fill out every year. It makes it much easier when you are in a conference and your schedule for all intents and purposes is made for you every year.
JHS playing A and AA teams all year is not going to help them, but not much they can do about it.

Re: WESTMONT, Worse team in the LHAC
I remember when GCC was there as well. Jeanette and Aliquippa have both been there, along with Hollidaysburg. Little better then what the Mountain Cat has offered the past 2 seasons, IMO.
McCort has been in the UPJ tourney nearly every year. Not sure how they manage it.
its a shame nothing can be done, but Johnstown has to be a lights out team in either sport to advance far anymore. Because the teams that are on the fence of being a great team will suffer due to lack of big game preparation. Just my read on things.
Just a large comparison on a small scale. But Michigan State gets waxed through November and December yearly. They play poorly and lose to some real quality opponents. Then they gain some solid momentum through league play, and come March they find themselves in the Final 4 each season. As they sit now with 4 losses to good teams, come March nobody will want to play them, and I'd expect to see them advance pretty far again..
Go out get a few really really tough games, work through the LHAC, mix in a tough one during the conference season, then go make a run through districts and states.
That might be the recipe.

Re: WESTMONT, Worse team in the LHAC
I miss Litwalk. I miss the powerhouse Trojan teams of yore. Maser. Horoho. Cummings. Clayton. Pridgen. Kamnikar. The old Cambria County War Memorial Holiday tourney, with 3 other powerhouse/ nationally ranked teams every year. I'd like to see UPJ revive something along that line. Maybe the gym wouldn't hold that size crowds.
It ain't over until it's over.

Re: WESTMONT, Worse team in the LHAC
Instead of a tournament, maybe the War Memorial should host a showcase. like 5-6 games all day from teams all over the state. That would be cool.
