Penn State or Pitt?

Post by The Ancient Enemy »

This is going to get very interesting. WTAE poll has 92% support for Bradley!

Now... look at this. Joe Paterno has successfully outlasted THREE coaches who should have been given that job. Jerry Sandusky, Fran Ganter, and probably Tom Bradley.

Sandusky should have been the head coach. I'm not much of a Ganter fan, but this guy has a lot of supporters, still. Bradley clearly "deserves" the job after Joe, but I am on the fence. Every time one of these guys leave... Jay's chances increase.

Rumor around the e-water cooler is that Bradley is bringing THREE to FOUR assistants from Penn State. Ron Vanderlinden, Kermit Buggs, McQueary for sure, if he gets hired. These 4 guys (3 + Bradley) are the sect of PSU assistants who are commonly referred to as "the real coaches", unlike Jay and the rest who are referred to as "fake coaches". There is supposedly two different coaching staffs up there.

If Tom Bradley gets hired at Pitt, and takes the real coaches with him, who have all been rumored the past few months as to all wanting out of Happy Valley, how many Penn State fans will start to make the move towards becoming Pitt fans?

about 000000.1% of Penn State fans make the move. They'll all stick to the dark side.

I'm not so sure about that. You have to figure that theres hardcore fans on both ends of the spectrum, and the majority of people all rest in the middle nd can go either way. Just like politics. There's a lot of pople in that middle who support PSU bc of their success, not b/c they ever went to school there, or they are casual fans, etc.

Bradley has a lot of fans, and I bet a lot of PSU fans would tune in to Pitt. I would.

Johnstown is a big in between town, being just about half way in between the schools. Bradley being a Johnstown native could sway some votes.

Its like asking if Bill Cower goes to the eagles, would people become eagles fans. The answer to both is no, you are a Pitt or Penn State fan for a reason. The history, you attened that school, freinds, or JoePa.

Just to add another wrinkle to this topic, Penn State is starting a ticket policy next season that requires season ticket holders to give a yearly donation to the program that will influence where in the stadium they will sit. I personally have talked to about a half of dozen fans that have been season ticket holders for decades at Penn State that are either getting or thinking about getting Pitt season tickets instead because they can actually afford them and the on the field product is very similar. Penn State is doing all they can to wreck that program and fans are taking notice.

Hardcore fans won't change, but what about all the people in the middle who only watch 5 games a year and cant name the starting LBers?

The way Penn State treats their fans is pathetic.
