psycho, your thoughts on the following.

Do you think that the politicians actually thought this through. Give me your thoughts on these situations.

1. Who pays for the transportation of everyone that wants to switch schools?

2. Is there a cut off date for deciding to use the voucher? Schools need to be able to adjust to fluctuations in the size of their student body.

3. The students that need help and change (mostly low income students that come from separated marriages) will still be left out. If schools get an influx in population they will probably increase their tuition for students that do not reside in their district. Making it only affordable to wealthier families.

4. Do schools have to accept these students from outside their district? Isn't education the responsibility of the community that the people reside in, not from a mandate from a larger state entity?

Some INFO: The proposal states that only low-income families would qualify (family of four with household income of less than 28,55).

Three year phase for it:
Year 1: Low-income students attending failing schools would be eligible to move to other private or public schools
Year 2: Would apply to low-income students who already had chosen to attend private schools
Year 3: Would apply to all low-income students, regardless of whether their public school was great or poor (so if you're a star athlete in a low-income family at a great school... move to another school that is building a loaded sports team!)

The proposal is not expected to breeze through the house and senate.

Psycho golf, track and cross country are not just individual sports. To win a state title you need numerous quality athletes. These sports have at least as many starters as a basketball team. You need everyone on the team to carry their share of the load to win the title. As far as baketball goes there have been alot of local boys and girls teams who have had success.Like I said tussey and southern fulton the past few years have gone deep into the playoffs on the boys side. There have also been quite a few quality girls teams too.BG has won how many state titles in a row.Northen Cambria, claysburg, westmont and many other schools have gone deep into the playoffs too.Our area is doing fairly well for its size.District 5 and 6 are not large districts at all! Lets face it many people think if you don't win a state title you have failed.I personally think thats a poor outlook. The bottom line is for the size of our area you are not gonna see many state titles. In my opinion consolidation will do little to remedy that!

I do not hate catholic schools.I just think privates should be in their own class, thats all.I really don't care to turn this into a private debate. My point was and is there are athletes in the area and we do all right.I also think consolidation isn't the answer.

To oldguy: You do know, that any comment in the least bit negative, about Catholic schools, automatically makes you a hater. That must be why I'm considered a hater too.
It ain't over until it's over.

he does hate catholic schools. he doesn't have to deny it.

I don't even remember many of your posts Manfred. I didn't know your allegiance was with the dark side, though.

I'm not gonna lie, I hate every public school in District 5 and District 6. Why lie?

You know I believe you are a little paranoid son.I have always said private schools in my posts, not catholic. If wishing private schools had their own classification is catholic bashing then I am guilty.

Old guy, in your defense, private schools should have their own class. Just for the fact that its obviously harder for public schools to compete with private schools due to the uhm.. recruiting? If some of the kids would stay at their public schools, mayb the west pac wouldnt be as weak as it is due to most of the athletic kids go somewhere else due to "academic reasons"..
