Jack Daniel, during your days at McCort, Salem was not married and had no kids.

Brandon is married and has three kids...

Whereas Salem could make up time during the evening watching film or doing paper work, Brandon has to be doing homework with kids and making sure their teeth are brushed etc.

The reason Salem stepped down is because he felt that being principal, head coach, and having a family was too much...

As far as it being hard to find qualified coaches in the area, yes it can be challenging, however, I would say that being athletic director/footballl coach at Richland is probably one the more desireable jobs with the facilities and budget that Richland has. They could in reality probably attract a coach from out of the area if need be.

So according to the tribune Bailey was 10-35 in the laurel highlands in his first 5 years (he also picked up 3 week ten wins that don't count for district playoff points as these games used to be for teams thats didn't make the playoffs during week 10. The opponents Penns Valley, Laurel Valley and Freedom Village. Which leads me to my next question for coaches with more than 8 years what is the highest average loses per season? By my count Brandon's at 5.78.

Notice the board did not ask Tom Smith to step down from wrestling even though he does not have a winning record yet. This is because Tom Smith is one of the most beloved individuals within that school. Remember more than anything the schools are about a balance of academics, arts, and athletics. Tom Smith is a great organized of people not just papers. You are more than a number to him. He will motivate and get the most out of the kids, but a lot of this may because they have different work loads. very few schools have a policy against vice principals being head coaches and that vote will not be for a while. The vote vote on the 24th is about Brandon Bailey as a principal/coach not his coaching abilities.

Check this article out about Marabito resigning at Johnstown, Bailey could of done this and then Tom Smith could be the guy that gets the Richland program to the next level his work ethic and personality are similar to Tony Penna.

@Recruitingguru35- Wouldn't the board be slightly hypocritical replacing Bailey with Smith seeing as Smith is the Vice Principal? What happens if Bailey decides after all of this to move on to another school/team? Who is the natural replacement at principal? Smith. Besides I do not think he would be comfortable taking over for Bailey because that staff is pretty tight knit.

While Bailey as a coach is certainly debatable, anyone who has talked to a student from Richland who isn't biased toward him will tell you that there is absolutely a conflict between being both the head football coach and the principal. Both jobs require a substantial amount of time and effort. Plus he has a family too! How could he balance all of that? My suggestion for Richland would be to ask Bailey to delegate his play-calling duties to a coordinator on his staff. That way he could focus more on being a good principal rather than worrying about game planning for his offence. While it is a conflict, I believe the school board is simply using that as a facade for the real reason why they want him gone: pressure from aforementioned parents about playing time.

With the whole BC coach thing, I do not believe a head coach should be the athletic director. It is again a conflict of interest. Why would he care about the golf team when there is a big game coming up Friday night?! And beyond that BC was a running football team. What did Richland do practically all last season? Who couldn't sit in the stands and call the next play for them? All they will do is run! Makes things a lot easier for the other team in my opinion. What happens when Rizzo is gone? Now what? They stuck themselves with a coach with a specific game plan.

You are missing the point. This issue hasn't risen from Bailey debating whether or not he is able to perform both jobs, on top of being a father. This issue hasn't risen from Richland administration having concerns. This is about disgruntled parents forcing the issue too the level of the Board.
Who in the world would want to work in an environment where the potential of upsetting the wrong parent could result in the loss of your job or position?

Not bad for your first post. A few gaps in your story. The board that is currently there will not allow smith to be principal and coach nor do i think he would want that. With the time he puts in now in multiple sports its not something he would do to the kids. Why wasnt Tom Fleming (then vice principal) hired as a coach when the job opening in 1999? I think they named Thomas Jones the coach and he had the first winning season (5-4) since 1986. Mind you this was a much more competitive Laurel Highlands and Richland had basically just gotten lights. Now they have the best facilities, most administrator coaches, and more uniforms than oregon. When Jones was asked to resign because he did had a family and could not put the time in he stepped away quietly for the good of the program. As a principal when you ask him to resign well you see what happens. Balance of Power.
