New bats in effect for the 2012 season
From what I have heard talking to people involved with the college teams that have switched to these new bats, they say that wood has more pop than the new aluminum. Does anyone know anything else about these bats?

Yes, in the 2011 - 2012 season high school teams will have to use bats that BESR certified (Bat exit speed ratio) There is another certification BBCOR (Batted BAll Coeffcient of Restitution) that will be used as well. Basically, after this year only bats with these certifications can be used.

Actually the new BBCOR standard will replace the BESR certification and was effective January 2011 for the college level and will be effective January 2012 for the high school level.

Some BESR bats are not legal starting this year. Any composite bat that is not already BBCOR or that does not have a waiver from the NFHS will not be legal.

Re: New bats in effect for the 2012 season
Just some comments about the new BBCOR bats that ive noticed...
1) There arent many bats to choose from yet
2) SOUND- they do not sound like BESR bats. Its, believe it or not, opposite. For example, if you hit a ball off the "sweet spot" of the bat, it sounds DEAD! If you hit a ball off the end or handle of the bat, it has a better ting sound to it. So it may play mind tricks with u? A player thinks he hit the ball good because of the sound, when actually it was hit off the end instead... Just something players have to get use to.
3) Yes there is going to be less homeruns hit, but that does not mean there wont be any hit! Look at the college games that were played already. The Homerun with still be a factor in the game.
4) As much as people can complain, at least they are not wood. These bats will hit better than wood bats.
