How often did he get teed up?WPIAL~Titan wrote:In my coaching days, I dismissed Sheed from the summer league that I ran. He committed 11 fouls in one game. His current behaviors can be traced back...What a clown...

Re: GO SCHOOL AT CHURCH FARM!
The way Sheed played and acted was ridiculous, trust me...and he was a skinny 6'10" soph with tons of talent and no respect for anyone or anything. His last game in the league, he clotheslined a kid driving the lane causing him to "Charlie Brown" (like when Lucy yanked the football from him as he ran to kick it), which started a mini-riot.
I told Sheed's coach that if his team comes back, I expect that kid to be absent. As I escorted Sheed out of the gym after calling security, he shared one of the all-time greatest lines ever said to me... "Yo, shorty professor punk, you too white to be right!!!" The coach gave me all kinds of static and they never showed up again and forfeitted their last 3-4 games. Just as well.
I have good memories from those days. That was some summer league site, 5 future NBA players (Kobe, Marc Brunson, Sheed, Aaron McKie, Eddie Jones) and at least 20 D1 kids on 16 teams from the western/northwestern part of Philly proper and the western Philly 'burbs. Just watch the movie "White Men Can''t Jump" and that gives you and idea of what the games were like.

Re: GO SCHOOL AT CHURCH FARM!
It was fun. Those were the days. I even refunded the coach his entry fee, just to get them out. What a circus his team was.
There was also this kid on another team whose nickname was "MeatBall"...he was like 6'6" 300 and moved like a pseudo-Barkley...I forgot a few more NBA players in those summer leagues: Adonal Foyle (I think he played for Cardinal O'Hara), Malik Rose (Overbrook or West Philly, I can't recall) and Jerome Allen (Episcopal Academy). I think Foyle played for the Magic up until a few years ago.
The league used to have sites in Philly, but there was some issue with custodians at Philly City high schools, so those sites couldn't be used for a few summers. Thus, the Philly Public teams were shipped out to the suburban sites and we got a handful every summer. It was always interesting, but some of the athletes were ridiculous, and most of the games were more like watching gymnastics meets. That MeatBall kid dunked so hard one night that he broke the collapsable rim and we had to finish the game in an auxillary gym.

It does sound like it would be a hell of a time reffing these games, sounds like a great way to spend some summer days. And hahahaha I would have loved to have just seen this Meatball character. And as for Foyle his last year with the Magic was 1997.

I didn't officiate, I was the site manager for our site. I was a frosh coach, and always got all the jobs nobody else wanted like running the summer league, taking the varsity to team camp, and driving all over the place to scout.

I have to say thank you to me ..." for not being stupid enough to go to Penn State."
Re: GO SCHOOL AT CHURCH FARM!
Titan the five players you mentioned did not all play against each other in this summer league did they? When Rasheed was a soph, Kobe was about a sixth grader.

Nice...that must of been a very memorable experience. Probably would only see as good or better players competing at that level in a few places across the entire country.
