I could definitely learn to like the analytical WPIALtitan.WPIAL~Titan wrote:All joking aside, Jtown had a great season, 24-2, 6AAA champs, and a PIAA win is solid. SF is an excellent team and I knew, having seen both teams play prior to last night, that Jtown would have matchup problems galore and would struggle against SF's defense. I thought they had a slight chance to win, if they defended well and SF had an off night.
Jtown will be solid again next season, with the same starters returning and maybe just a tad bit less depth. They will be the pre-season favorite to win the LHAC and D6AAA and should be one of the favorites in the PIAA AAA western bracket. Jtown may be the best team in D6 next season in any classification (State College could argue that point.)
Jtown really needs to upgrade their schedule next season and play a few more non-section games against better competition. Altoona and State College are good OOC games to have, but they need to pick up a few others. A solid tip off and/or holiday tourneys would do the trick.
UPJ Tourny does nothing for them. I said to a friend leaving the game they need to enter a tourny or two with better competition.

Re: Johnstown-South Fayette
Jtown needs to get some "grind it out" teams that play tough defense and have good skills on their schedule. Having the athletes that they have, they will struggle against teams that know how to play basketball and defend vs. playing street ball.
They really need to get on the road for a game or two like that against AAA or AAAA competition. A good tip off or holiday tourney, maybe in the WPIAL or in eastern PA would do the trick. Their LHAC games should be a breeze, with the exception of a few difficult trips like to PC, CC, or McCruit and possibly an off night against another team. They should lose no more than 1-2 games vs. the LHAC.

sportsfan1000 started this topic, right? Sounds to me like "Johnstown ran into the best player he has seen all year" as some kind reason they lost? Maybe Cobaugh really didn't know how to defend him. Who knows? People can INFER whatever they want from the start of this topic. But it sounds to me like you were taking solace in the Trojan loss.
Re: Johnstown-South Fayette
Combine budget cuts with high gas prices and I doubt Johnstown goes too far to play next year.
Re: Johnstown-South Fayette
Who is the best player they have seen all year, Zedreck or Lambert? Lambet was supposed to be the player but because of foul trouble in the first half he didn't get going. Imagine the how much worse it could have been.
Re: Johnstown-South Fayette
SF had probably the most overall team quickness and speed that I have seen in sometime. They play defense. From what I could determine they played a match-up zone and created problems when J-town tried to run a pick and roll out top causing numerous turnovers. SF guards definitely dominated.
Re: Johnstown-South Fayette
And yet the lowly Rangers managed to beat them once this year. Or do you cop out by saying they beat themselves.
It ain't over until it's over.

You two FH guys can't be this stupid can you? I said Johnstown lost to a team that had the best player they seen all year and to the best team they seen all year and you two someone think that I'm making an excuse for Johnstown. How in Gods name can you possibly come to that conclusion?Manfred wrote:And yet the lowly Rangers managed to beat them once this year. Or do you cop out by saying they beat themselves.
Manfred, I also can't believe you are comparing JHS to FH. The kicked the crap out of FH twice for two different championships.
By the way, enjoy the 7 or 8 wins FH will get next year. More likely than not we will be enjoying ANOTHER D6 championship.
Re: Johnstown-South Fayette
I think they call it rationalizing? In your case, you bring up that you thought Johnstown faced the best player they have seen all year when they were destroyed by South Fayette. Honestly sounds like an excuse to me.

Re: Johnstown-South Fayette
I know all those Jtown AAA championships are well deserved, but with all due respect, District 6AAA is about as non competitive as it gets in western PA hs boys hoops...6-7 teams in the whole district with few known for good basketball, except Jtown and maybe Lewistown...Jtown virtually gets a bye to the finals every year based on tradition alone...This is why I mention that Jtown must upgrade their OOC schedule next year, because they should be able to show up and do to everyone in 6AAA what South Fayette did to them. I am more impressed with Jtowns district championships won in the highest classification AAAA (AAA before 1984), although there are even fewer teams at that classification.
