Re: Interesting Help Wanted Ad?
FH puts just as many kids on to the next level as anyone else around here besides Johnstown and McCort for obvious reasons.
In the last 4 recruiting classes
McCarty
Mehall
Glessner
Gdula
Moss
Donoughe
Hinderliter
Albaugh
Rearick
Katrancha
Carpenter
This years class could include
Dudukovich
Meier
McCombie
Glacken
Ondreick
A large amount of FH players don't even go on to attend college, let alone play ball. I don't think that they have any less talent than teams around this area, but I do believe they play above and beyond their talent for the reasons previously posted (a winning environment, good coaching, tradition, feeder systems, simplistic power run/run stop schemes)
To say FH is any less talented than any team around here isn't true. In the last 5 recruiting classes (including this years) FH COULD boast at having
1) A top quarterback of the last ten years
2) A top D Lineman
3) A top fullback
4) 2 top running backs
5) Numerous other standout players

I guess I was looking at the potentially incomplete list here from username6's list. In that list they have 4 a total of four kid that were on D1 or D2 roster last 5 seasons, behind BM(19) JHS(11) CC(5) BC(5) and tied with 3 other schools. Not that it means much as the list is not 100% accurate. Just being the most successful team, and having the 2nd largest male enrollment as of 2009, you would assume they would have a lot more. Certainly can't argue much with the on the field success.

Unlike other coaches around, Don doesn't help nearly as much as he should with recurting.
Re: Interesting Help Wanted Ad?
College football is a JOB!!!!!! It's an all year round JOB, especially the higher the classification. Look at how many locals have quit the sport after a year or 2 of college. If you really love the game, then go for it. But many don't want to go to St. Vincent, Chowan, Walsh, etc etc to play football for 4 years after high school.
Re: Interesting Help Wanted Ad?
i never mentioned any d3 schools, basically anyone can go play there and it isn't a matter of getting recruited. No athletic scholarships and schools needing to fill rosters and quotas.
But a job it is. Even high school requires a ton of work, and a lot of the top programs include football and weightlifting work the entire year. Any head coach should get his team working on getting stronger and more skilled in the entire off season.(not just 4,6,8 weeks before camp)

Re: Interesting Help Wanted Ad?
Pats, I appologize. About 4-5 I named were kids who played at the D3 level.
FH has an interesting situation.. a lot of the kids simply don't have the desire to play after high school. Bailey pursues college coaches only AFTER their senior season (unless you are a big time prospect) and only AFTER you acknowledge the fact that you want to play in college. You won't see Bailey calling coaches in season, and you won't see recruiters at practices/games. Whether Bailey is hurting these kids' futures is up for debate. You could make an argument that if Bishop McCort had the FH roster, many more names would be on that list I posted, and many of the names posted would be playing at bigger/better schools or on bigger scholarships. Moldo makes a great point though. How many kids from this area give football up after a year or two? I'd say most of them do. The kids come out of high school expecting the game to be like it was, but it's not. Instead of fun times with friends, they are thrown in to camp miles away from home with strangers. It's much more business like and a commitment more than a recreational activity. Then there's kids who come from winning programs, and are on losing teams in college. Finally, some of these kids are studs in high school and that is why they love the sport. In college, they are to fit in somewhere as a role player whether it be special teams or a backup or not being "the man" and they don't find the sport as enjoyable. In my opinion, we shouldn't worry about this stuff. The important thing is that these kids continue their academic career, and if they decide to focus soley on that then more power to them. Who cares how many D1-2 players a high school has? We've (the LHAC) had a couple NFL players the last 20 or so years... We should be happy for the kids who go on to play. The FH attitude toward it is give high school ball all you have, and if you get an opportunity to play in college at a school you like it's all just gravy. Personally, unless you are a big time BCS recruit, I feel like this should be every schools attitudes.

Re: Interesting Help Wanted Ad?
Respect your opinion but I disagree. For many kids, they NEED the help of football to get through college or even have the opportunity of attending college. I think today that coaches need to do everything they can do get kids these opportunities to advance. Sure a lot of the kids won't like football, or the college or whatever, but there are still some that need that opportunity or little extra motivation.

How much help should he provide? Sometimes you have to help yourself.woninthetrenches wrote:Unlike other coaches around, Don doesn't help nearly as much as he should with recurting.
