Probably the same as always - the teams with the biggest zones will do the best. Somerset, Claysburg, Bedford, and St. Michael.

How do you figure St. Michael is one of the teams with the "biggest zones" ? They are confined to the Forest Hills school district. They have success because of their quality of athletes, not because they can draw from the whole da#n county, like the others mentioned (Claysburg not so much, but they do get NB, Central, beyond.)
It ain't over until it's over.

Only 2 of those listed have "big zones" bedford takes from 3 or more schools, as does claysburg. Somerset takes only kids from Somerset high school they are just good. St. Michael's takes from FH but im not too sure why you think they are any good?

Legion teams from largest to smallest zones, based on population:
Bedford
Conemaugh
Claysburg
Stoystown
Patton/Spangler jointure
Richland
Meyersdale
Somerset
Westmont (they go to fourth if they pull kids from United)
Lilly
Ebensburg
St. Michael
Portage
Nanty Glo

Bedford gets automatic berth at regionals this year as host so only one other spot available.
D-6 playoffs start May 19, Legion schedule starts May 20. Good luck with that.

The past 7-8 years, may be even further back, St. Michael and Somerset were the ones running this area in legion baseball. So why wouldn't they be brought up? Especially since they are both in the bottom half of where they could draw from. I couldn't begin to explain the teams St. Michael could have put together in the past couple years if they could have fielded kids from multiple school districts. It probably wouldn't be fair. Same goes for Somerset I would think (I do not remember if they get kids from other schools). Also FH were sending two to three very good baseball players to AAABA during these years. St. Michael, with all those factors added in and with only drawing from one school, did and is still doing very da*n well for theirselves when it comes to legion baseball.

A previous poster showed the rankings according to population. For the "few" little towns they have to draw from, yes, St. Michael does really well, considering. Give them the same advantage as Somerset and Bedford, and even Claysburg, and see how they would dominate. Then see how the rest of the league would Bit##. Give Patton or Nanty-Glo those same advantages and they would rule also. Level the playing field. I'm just saying. Make some rule changes. Not saying this is an answer, but how about keeping a given amount of local players, say 5 from a given franchise, and have an open draft of all other registered players? This probably wouldn't work, but does any of you have a better idea, speak out.

I am a bit suprised to hear that Bedford is going to host a regional tournament.

The biggest consideration/concern is no lights at any HS baseball facility in Bedford. That limits action to daylight only.

For those in the know, will they ulitize other local fields like Everett, CR, or even NBC for back-up fields or even consolation games?

With the extemely wet spring, the field at Bedford has to be wet as the drainage is poor due to the proximity of the stream running beyond the left field fence.

However, it is nice to see Bedford offering to host.

Can anyone remember a local franchise hosting recently. I know Spangler hosted a Legion baseball regional around 1987. Keith Williams from Bedford hit a homerun in centerfield off the supermarket against Philipsburg....a ture bomb.

I know State College and Murraysville have hosted as well with beautiful facilities...Ebensburg/Reveloc has also hosted with no so great facilities, but is was closer to Bedford Co.
