In addition to the Heritage-West PAC agreement to cross over to play each others open dates in 2012, why not this coming season also? At least most open dates could surely be cross overed.

Re: Heritage Conference 2011 Open Dates
Chestnut Ridge absorbed 6 of the 9 open dates for the Westpac last year and it looks like they will again in 2011.
Blacklick Valley, Shade, and Ferndale were the only Westpac teams with open dates that didn't play Chestnut Ridge last year. And in 2011 all three of these schools will be playing Heritage teams on their open dates. Kind of head start on the Westpac - Heritage scheduling agreement that will supposedly happen in 2012 - leaving Chestnut Ridge who knows where as far as a schedule in 2012.
The other big change for District 6 in 2011 is the loss of Indian Valley and Lewistown from the Mountain League. They merged and are playing in that District 3 league with State College. So lots of Mountain League teams are having one or two open dates this season, hence Philipsburg Osceola playing both Marion Center and Ligonier Valley.

With the open dates filled in 2012 by the crossover between the Heritage and WesPAC, are the Heritage's plans to find a replacement for Laurel Valley cancelled?

Re: Heritage Conference 2011 Open Dates
I think the Heritage Conference is just seeing how it plays out. I doubt that any of these plans are carved in stone, other than the upcoming school years where it appears there will again be just nine teams in the conference. The West Shamokin thing must have either fallen through or be on hold.
If nothing changes by the end of 2011-2012, perhaps the Heritage - Westpac scheduling arrangement will come to pass. If one team joins the Heritage, it will be off (and Ligonier Valley stays in the Heritage.)
If two teams are found to join the Heritage, there is a good chance Ligonier Valley will be asked to leave. There is a faction of schools in the conference that would prefer anybody to Ligonier Valley (anybody other than Bishop Carroll, that is.) That faction in the Heritage might persuade the others. Though I think it is unlikely that two schools will apply to join the Heritage, it is possible that a Blacklick Valley might change its mind and join with West Shamokin to leave Ligonier Valley hunting for a new home - all possible, but unlikely.

Red and Black,
Do you know if Ligonier Valley has recently made overtures to the LHAC or the WPIAL about moving as a contingency plan should they get the bump out of the conference? I'm curious as to the reasoning behind the "faction" and their efforts as well. Why kick LV out? The rest of the schools would benefit from playing larger schools a la the LHAC. The faction grumblings sounds like loser talk. "Oh we can't compete with them, they're AA!" Gimme a break. No offense to LV, but they're hardly a football power outside of the conference. Lost to a 6-4 Central team last year in the first round. I think it was you that said previously that all signs point to them dropping down to A in the near future anyway.
Happy Fathers Day to all the fathers out there.

Re: Heritage Conference 2011 Open Dates
I actually see no changes in the short term for the HC. The confence stood strong on West Shamokin by stating all or nothing stance. MC was the big supporter of West Shamokin, a boardering district. I can see some concern about playing up but its only one game, 8 schools would make two open weeks and even more of scheduling headache. The most ironic thing has been that Blairsville and Saltsburg are the most opposed to a merged Liggy, however football and the 2 basketball are the only non co-oped sports in the B.S.S.D. and those sports are always just one school baord election away from being co-oped
