Friday 10/28/11 Updates
Re: Friday 10/28/11 Updates
sportsdoc, you just stole my thunder. The Tribune-Democrat (Another member of your family) is indeed a corporate sponsor for McCort, and they are a member of TEAM McCORT. What is this you might ask? Members of TEAM McCORT contribute to a sponsorship program which allows the high school (BM) to continue it's proud athletic tradition. So what the heck does that mean???? And you think that the Tribune has NO vested interest in Crusher athletics????? So everytime you buy a Tribune-Democrat newspaper, does some of the T-D profit go to McCort athletics???? No wonder the paper needs to make the Crushers look good, and a little embellishment never hurts.
Re: Friday 10/28/11 Updates
Sorry, Moldy. I didn't mean to steal your thunder, but you know what they say: great minds think alike.
I've always said that the Tribune favors TWO teams in their football coverage.
1. Bishop McCort
2. Whoever BM is playing this week
There is no faster way from the back pages to the front pages of the Saturday football issue than to play BM!!
But look at it this way, BM is truly the area's team. If you put portage vs blacklick on the front page, you've attracted the attention of people from two school districts and two communities. When BM is on the front page(and Crimson/Jack Daniel can help me out with numbers here cause i'm just estimating), you attract the attention from people from ten or twelve "sending" districts and communities from ebensburg to ligonier. A much wider coverage area to be sure for a newspaper.
They think it sells more papers which would allow more for corporate sponsorship, i guess.
I, for one, always like to keep up with the kids that used to play with mine when he was in junior high.

i have to say n.s. win, that was their first westpac title and they played a great game.El-Moldo wrote:....In high school football, what is considered a HUGE victory? Winning as an underdog over a better opponent? A win that gets you into the playoffs? A win that gives you that undefeated season? Last night, there were several HUGE wins:
....1) Berlin coming from behind to beat Windber (with the area's top rusher) 22-21. That was huge.
....2) Penn Cambria going up to Richland on their senior night and beating the rams in OT 32-24. That was a huge victory.
....3) And how about North Star, which was 7-1, beating Conemaugh Township, which was 7-1, to claim their first ever WestPac championship. That, my friends, was huge.
....4) And finally, Bishop McCort beating Cambria Heights by a score of 42-14. Heights has a losing record after 9 games. Huge you ask??? The Tribune thinks so. Headlines for the game in the football supplement read, "Varga leads Bishop McCort to HUGE win over Heights". WOW!! Except for a slight shift in the Single A playoff picture, what was so HUGE about it? Did it get BM into the playoffs, give them an undefeated season, or win them a conference championship? Can you say "embellishment"?

If it wasn't for the JHS and BM partisans chumming the water every day here, luring the rest of us into their nets, they may actually have to develop a life. I'm swimming, but I think I'm losing.
It ain't over until it's over.

You have 930 posts since 2009. I have 584 since 2006 and I need to get a life? You spend wayyyyyy more time on here than me.
Re: Friday 10/28/11 Updates
Isn't it amazing. When you have no plausible argument, you have to compare the NUMBER of POSTS as your deflective comeback. Sad.
It ain't over until it's over.

manfred is right. BM and Johnstown constantly give us the ammunition we need to criticize their schools. It's easy pickings.
