Kirk, this is an absolute disgrace and outrage. Fans like you were part of the problem, deifying a man who became bigger than life itself, let alone bigger than PSU...The man is completely insane, he was leading cheers on his lawn last evening and asking for prayers for victims while he stood by and did next to nothing. He was PSU and had no real supervisors at any other time, except when he really needed to step up to the plate in 2002, he passed the buck.

Paterno manufactured the lie called Penn State Football. Success with Honor, The Grand Experiment=MYTHS. The issue is, it took a travesty, a tragedy for cult members to figure it all out...and yet many still support Paterno.

Dude have you seen any of my posts? I support the decision and said he should be let go from the beginning. I just think you are a loser with no life who has devoted his life to Penn State Hatred. You need to get a life. Maybe Paterno being gone will help you achieve that.

I see a bigger issue here... Paterno thinks he did nothing wrong - no surprise there. Those who defend Paterno think he shouldn't be held accountable for his moral ambivalence, citing all of the GOOD he did over the years. Again, no surprise there either, because those in the "cult" have been blinded by the product that has been marketed and promoted for 30 years.

What I see as the biggest issue is the PSU fans who support the actions of the Board, but do not think the football program has anything to do with what occurred. Football is the reason these crimes were able to be committed for so many years. Nothing was done because PSU Football is more than a "cult". PSU football is an untouchable cash cow. I dare you to find another school that had an Interstate Highway built right to its football stadium!!! The "cult" enabled the cash cow, just as the staff and administrators enabled Sandusky. Until all of the PSU "cult" realizes that there are things more important than football - life, for example - this will not go away, and the university and the VICTIMS will not heal. The only way for some fans to realize that there are more important things in life, is to stop the football program dead in its tracks.

In business and industry, whenever there is a major breakdown, it is either a system problem, or a person problem. The fact that not one, not two, not three, not four, but at least FIVE people, and maybe even MORE failed to act and do anything to stop a sexual predator from operating in their institution is the first extreme indicator of a system problem.

The second indicator that this is a system problem is how the "cult" members and fans want to deflect and attack all of the critics, cynics, and even the haters who have voiced their opinions. The crimes that occurred deep within the football program are so reprehensible that everyone outside of the "cult" feels an obligation to express their own outrage. Look, this is a team that many Pitt fans are supposed to "hate" on the field of play. That is expected, and almost a requirement of competition as far as rivals are concerned (see WV, OSU, etc). However, in tough times, and times of tragedy, opposing fans come together to voice their support for each other. This is one of those instances where the outrage expressed by those outside of the "cult" is a form of sympathy. We know something bad happened, and we wouldn't wish it on anyone. WE ARE OUTRAGED! However, those who fight back with accusations of pride, arrogance, hubris, etc, need to get beyond the anger/denial stage and get into the acceptance/recovery stage. Something very bad happened. Nothing anyone can say will make it better. No matter how many personnel changes are made it will not give back what the victims' lost and the pain they endure.

The only way to fix the institution is to fix the system. Until the system is fixed, the "cult" will believe that PSU football is even more important than the lives of the VICTIMS who were violated and scarred for life.
And that is my biggest issue here - despite the outrage expressed by so many millions of Americans, thousands of "cult" members still feel that this is a person problem, and it should go away as soon as a few people are shown the door. For the record, I think that every school has its own "cult", and this could play out elsewhere if the names were changed. But alas, it didn't. It happened at PSU. So here we are...

I don't think they should even play this Saturday. I don't think they should even play the rest of the year. If the PSU Board wants to make a statement of how remorseful they are towards the vicitims, this is what they should do - cancel the remainder of the 2011 season.

Then, and only then would it be appropriate to discuss things that may be good for the PSU football program.

A lot of strong opinions with so little of the facts actually known. Yes we know Sandusky was a predator of young boys.

But doesn't anyone else find it strange that three people come up with the same store of what Mike McQuerry told them. All three report this same story to the DA but only two are charged. Why did the DA pass on Paterno? He confirmed the same story given by McQuerry.

Is it possible that McQuerry left out the details to all three, making it look like a repeat of the 1998 incident that resulted in no crime or charges? After all Sandusky was investigated for showering with a young boy and found not to have committed a crime.

Is it a case that the DA is protecting their star witness and to make him credible they file charges against the administration as lie or unbelievable. After all if McQuerry's version is a lie it would possibly weaken him as the star witness. It certainly would present a different picture of what the PSU administration knew or didn't know.

Yes the real story is about the victims but making other victims is not right either.

So I am not ready to jump as fast as you are to the conclusion of your thread title.

Lets here the facts in something other than a post GJ report. However I like we can all agree that Sandusky should be made a lasting example of what happens to child molesters.
