To this day Moldy is still bitter about being snubbed for the All-State football team from the late 60's. So, to get even, he became an Allstate insurance man!

Old and bitter, that sums up this guy. Doesn't know how to be happy for anything or anyone. What a miserable way to go through life.

Gary Hrivnak DE Chicago 1973-75
Tom Mikula FB-LB Brooklyn 1948
Steve Petro OG-LB Brooklyn 1940-41
Jeff Richardson C-OG-OT New York Jets-Miami 1967-69
Ed Stofko TB-DB Pittsburgh 1945
Larry Walton WR Detroit-Buffalo 1969-78
Zeke Wissinger OT Pottsville 1926

Yes. And when it comes to the facts, my motto is, "You're in good hands with All-State". Has anyone been outside today? It's bitter. Hey, I have a great idea. Why doesn't the NFL expand to 64 teams. Then more kids from Johnstown can make the list of NFL players from above. It's like the SAT's. Just make it easier to achieve the end goal.

Before 1960, there were only 12 NFL teams. In those days, to make an NFL roster, YOU HAD TO BE GOOD!!!! From all over the United States, every pro football player had to fit into 12 teams. The same thing happened in baseball. Now, there are so many pro athletes in football and baseball that the talent is diluted. That's why a catcher with a .250 batting average is making MILLIONS of dollars. The talent is so diluted it's pathetic. The more players there are, the thinner the talent is. It's the same way with the Pa high school football all-state teams. You get "average" kids being called ALL-STATE. Unbelieveable.

I hold your view with the all-state teams no doubt, but the NFL is the NFL. Those guys are gorillas or guerillas depending on how you see the game played. Point being it's tough enough to withstand the beating you take in college and still be able to play in the league. Now, I would agree with you if you said that making a practice squad in the NFL is easier today, but the list didn't include practice players…only guys that played in an actual game.

Compare this to the chances today at 1.2% and the chances of making the all-state team in 2011 are SIGNIFICANTLY GREATER. In fact, the chances are 20% greater than 50 years ago.
El-Moldo wrote:Maybe you can't understand math. I said you go from .06%, NOT .6%. BIG DIFFERENCE. .06% is nowhere near 1.2%. You need to multiply .06% X 20 to get 1.2%. 1.2% is TWENTY TIMES GREATER than .06%. Maybe math wasn't one of your strong suits in high school.
Looks like Math was not one of your strong suits either, something 20 TIMES GREATER is 2000% greater not 20% greater.

This has NOTHING to do with endurance. It's WHO makes the team in the first place. The more NFL players you have, the more diluted the talent pool is. It can't be any more simple than that. The larger a pool of anything, the less quality the pool has. It's even the same way in nature. If every male elk would mate with females, the pool quality would go down. But when only the BEST male elk mates, the better the quality of the population remains.
