Re: Loya out at North Star
I wouldn't second guess close for a second behind Loya he is the best this county has ever seen and he learns this stuff from Lance...an 8th gradee start varsity for any team in the county? While be so modest? He would start for Chester!
Re: Loya out at North Star
Go watch those two kids play before you put your foot in your mouth. I saw close, buck, and the 8th grade barnes take 3rd against men in a 3 on 3 tourney. Some of the men were the finest ball players around the county for years and the team that won had the j-town boys. Alot of these kids in it play college ball now! The 4th man sub was the 8th grade heiple boy. Close is only a junior this year and buck a senior playing with 2 kids that just finished 7th grade over the summer. Heiples dad coaches these somerset kids and they go all over pa. for tourneys and to different states. They place in most tourneys top3 and win alot of them. These kids go to camps and romans for shooting alot! They are dedicated and there parents are taking them all over which will give close a good group of 9th graders that are better than most county point guards. Fyock and loya know all about parents like heiple that put his time in to help the program so they have studs when they enter in 9th grade. And these coaches then develope these kids into fine players and young men.

I agree, Close has the ball on a string, he is like a 1 man press break!
Re: Loya out at North Star
This is to good to be true--- The one and only AB and almight Jack Loya on the same post. You two are amazing. Thanks for a great afternoon of enjoyment. These 2 have left more Bull **** out in 1 afternoon than a heard of Bulls could in a day!!!!!!!! Thanks again AB and Jack
Re: Loya out at North Star
You are welcome and it isn't bullcrap. Anything said from ab/ jl you can take it to the bank. They are legends compared to you young punks that get on here and don't know sports or how to play them. From reading your guys crap, you definitely don't know sports cutting down a coach with a record like that! Like I said badpass and carom and some of the others are just jacks bench warmers that he knew wasn't any good and didn't see the court, so they get on and cut down a legend coach that proved himself time in and time out. I don't care what you guys say because you don't know sports from the ludicrist things you say on here. You will see at north star what there records will be now with your new coaching staff. Compare it to jacks in a few years. And I would quit coaching if I won and got treated like jl did over all these years. You guys want to be a loser, so be it, you forced jls hand, and he stepped down because of all you idiots cutting on a winner for a coach. But this year is rockwoods best team in 30 years! Yah, okay! Fyock will show you all what a player is and what hard work does for you and how it pays off. He is a junior and will have shades scoring record before he goes.
Re: Loya out at North Star
Somerset will be like they always are. Great Jr. high teams, Good Jv teams, and where are they as varsity players?? They are a baseball school not a basketball school and that is how somerset likes it. As far as loya goes, what he did was wrong no matter what the reason. If he felt that way about the N.S. team he would have resigned last year. The truth is he applied for another job and waited to hear from them. He gave no warning to the school district and left them handcuffed to start the season. If he cared that much about N.S. he would never have done that. He was selfish when he coached and is selfish now. If he developed these post players so much, why have none of those post players gone on to play college basketball? I can tell you why. They dominated a post game because of their size. They had no post moves and were just able to out jump teams from somerset county. No college coach would be interested in undisciplined players that didn't work in practice. They were unproven and well behind the curve as far as post development
Re: Loya out at North Star
Somerset doesn't run the 5-5-5 rotation anymore. That was just a ploy to get his kid on the floor when he was a freshman. They didn't do it last year when he was a soph, and certainly won't do it this year now that he is a junior.
Re: Loya out at North Star
Did they start to teach defense too? or is it still all about scoring points?
Re: Loya out at North Star
You are right because close's son was a freshman when they ran that crap. They had some good athletes that didn't even play a full game there and that is why they lost. I saw close play and his kid is really a great team player and he will knock down the 3's. But people at somerset were complaining for years about close coaching playing all these kids like that when he clearly had 5 that would have won. At least he learned, because if he does it with some of these kids coming up the parents won't keep there boys at that school very long because some of these kids play all over the state and out of state, and somerset will have good programs if close uses them right. He needs to get the best 10 kids and the rest are j.v. Work with the 10 for chemistry and let them gel together and he will have great seasons for the next 5 years! If kids quit, so be it. Be fair and pick your best 10 and the rest are j.v., and don't let parents make your decisions no matter how mighty or rich!
Re: Loya out at North Star
North Star definately is not the same team of the past, they will indeed miss Loya. Portage beat them last night 51-39. Bryja dominated the game. It seems portage will go as he goes this season.
