Re: Top teams in District 4?
I don't really follow girls basketball. But, in boys I do.
AAAA
Williamsport is the only 4A team in the district. They play in the D2 playoffs and are not state-wide contenders.
AAA
Danville is the top AAA team. 20-2. Started out 0-2 with losses to Pottsville and Allentown Central Catholic. Ran the table from there. Won Pine Grove Tourney, beat Mifflin County and Athens. Demolished the Heartland Big School League. 14-0. 13/14 games were 14 points or higher. Not really a state contender. Lack size. Very quick and fun to watch though.
AA
Athens is the top seed in D4. Only losses by 1pt to AAA power Danville on a putback at the buzzer. And, a loss to a NY team. Athens is huge for a AA team. 6'5,6'4 and 6'5. 2nd best player is 6th man 6'2" and another big kid off of the bench 6'5". Guard play is a little spotty to contend for a state title IMO. Loyalsock is pretty good from what I've heard. Haven't seen in person. Lewisburg and Southern Columbia are pretty good. No threat to go far in states though.

Sullivan County is the top seed in D4 A playoffs. Nowhere near as good as some recent A teams like Millville with Wes Lyons and Mansield from a couple of years ago.

Loyalsock is an OK team. They could be very good but they will lose to teams that out coach them. They are without a doubt the most athletic team in the district and run the floor well. But like I said, if they play a team with talent and are well coached, they can be beat. I expect them to win the district title then lose first round in states.

Danville(20-2) has handled Shamokin(11-11) the last couple of years winning 6 straight in this rivalry. But, these one game playoffs are a new ballgame. Shamokin can make their season by knocking Danville off and finishing their season. 4yrs ago Shamokin had a far superior team and lost to Danville on a last second 3 pointer from half-court.Coach wrote:How do things look for Danville on Friday night?

Never take these backyard rivalries lightly. Just tonight I saw Southern Columbia nip Central Columbia by a 3 pointer that rattled off. 11 days ago those 2 teams played at Central and Southern pummeled them 66-37.

Yeah, I went to Danville. The funny thing about that game is that it was tied with a few seconds left and never should have been. Shamokin made their 2 foul shots with about 3 seconds left. Just enough time to set up that play. The kid that hit the 3 made a half-court shot at half time of the previous playoff game at Shamokin ironically against a different team of course.greyhound wrote:Magoo that shot was unreal and crazy that someone had that footage. This years Danville team is fun to watch. Not the biggest team in the world. But, they can get up and down the court. Avg. score in high sixties. You can listen to the game will be on blackdiamondsports.net on Friday I believe. If you are out of the area. They usually do the Shamokin games.
