Coach, IMO, there are several problems with this:

Does the punishment fit the crime? The impetus for this particular "punishment" (picking up paper in the stadium) was an incident when the entire PSU defense bull rushed another student's apartment and beat a guy unconscious. What about the players who had nothing to do with the incident? How is this fair to them? Also, what about the perps? Cleaning a stadium for ganging up on and beating an undergrad silly?

Paterno wanted the stadium cleaning to be the players' only consequence for an assault, and wanted the police and judicial affairs to stay out of the incident while he handled it on his own. Honestly, are you kidding me??

Paterno's decision to make the players clean the stadium as their only punishment because of an incident like this truly shows me (and the rest of the non-PSU football cult and free world) that Paterno had clearly lost his mind by this point.

Paterno did this on top of anything the law handed out.
