I don't believe that there is a correlation between your playing days and the quality of coaching that you bring to the table. There are plenty of great coaches that were great college players and just as average players that are great coaches. (There are also great players that couldn't coach their way out of a wet paper bag.) I do agree that having played football in college is beneficial to high school coaches but it is not a prerequisite!

Playing college ball is a must have with coaching high school ball... The days of only playing high school ball have been long gone... The better programs hire the best coaches... and they played college... even if its only at st francis its still another level you must have. You know what they call a doctor who graduates from medical school in last place of his class? Doctor! Looks like westmont just filled the position with a last placer and did not do anything for the program... Any kid with talent will goto McCort... Back to square one....

So "Wolf" what gives you, other than your right to free speech, the requisite knowledge to make a sweeping generalization that you MUST play in college to coach HS?

I did not attend Westmont nor do I reside there but from the view of an outsider Jesus Christ himself would not be good enough for the Westmont fans and School Board who change football coaches at the expense of the kids and that is a darn shame. Maybe you could be competitive like in years past if this year's flavor of the "lame-duck coach" doesn't have to look over his shoulder every time he calls a play.

It takes time to implement a system and for the entire program (grades 7-12) to be running it efficiently. I would give any newly hired coach 5 years to produce a winner as long as he wasn't a detriment to the program or the community.

Fear not... The new guy will be gone with the wind as soon as he figures out all of the guys whispering sweep nothing's in his ear will also be stabbing him in the back at the same time... again at the expense of the kids!

The reason WH is back to square one is because people like you run out every good coach they hire on the hilltop.

I trust Coach Cal and the board with this hire.

If you dont like it take your kid and your checkbook down to McCort.

My guess is that you weren't good enough to play at either place that is why you have all the answers now!

Who was the QB from McCort who was the head coach at Ferndale a few years ago? He went to Slippery Rock, was on the SRU football team as a freshman only, and then played baseball. Someone offered him the Ferndale job based on THAT resume.

Coaching is attitude, desire, and dedication.

Traits that can be learned in many aspects of life.
Knowledge of the game is a plus (obviously) but many college and pro coaches played in "lower" ranks of college football.

Playing college football DOES NOT make you a better coach.

By the way, Mike Zmijanac never played a down of football in his life....I rest my case

If you come from a cave, Mike Zmijanac is one of the best football coaches in PA AND was featured on ESPN. He coaches at a small school called Aliquippa...ever hear of it Wolfi? He went 124-24 or something in 12 seasons.

Wolfi... comments on that?
