Surprises- good and bad after 4 weeks?

Post by Coach »

What do you think?

Even though they've rebounded strongly it is weird to see Tyrone 2-2.

BG is a surprise...didn't see this coming.

Somerset, I saw coming but they won the one I thought they'd lose and lost what I thought was a win.

Portage seems like a positive surprise after beating NS.

Northern Bedford and Bellwood are on a collision course in week 8 for ICC Gold supremacy with both sitting at 4-0. Both have been good over the last two years but they didn't play. I'd say it is a surprise to see them both 4-0 at this point.

Central is 3-1. The terrific football continues in the post-Runk era.

Huntingdon- I didn't see it coming... They are really struggling.

Richland- They lose Rizzo. They're expected to still be good. They've met expectations and look great.

Sorry the post isn't in any sort of order by league, etc.

I'll focus on the WetPac. Some may consider North Star as somewhat of a dissapointment. Don't get me wrong, they are having a good year but pretty much everyone expected them to be undefeated at this point . I still wouldn't be surprised to see them win the district again.

I'm not surprised Windber is 4-0 but the real meat of the schedule is coming up. Some predicted 5 or 6 wins for them this year and I think they will surpass expectations. I thought Twonship would be a bit better than what they've shown and Portage not quite as good as they've been. Berlin is playing quite well as expected. As for the rest of the league, no real surprises there.

Tyrone is 2-2, but seem to finally have their act together only surrendering no varsity points, and putting up 131 points in their last two games. BEA is 4-0, Bellefonte is 3-1. Although I think that will change very soon. They have been scraping away wins against lesser opponents, but who knows.

You may be right, Wilson-Adams, Oliver,Snyder, and company will have to play 3 quarters a week instead of 2.

The Good:
BG - I would have thought they were a year away from making some noise. Now they may be the 6A favorite along with BA, PM, and BM.
Bellwood and Northern Bedford - These ICC big boys are on a collision course for a battle of unbeatens down the road. I don't think these schools have played since the 80's. So glad this is back on the schedule.
Central's Duo - Austin Cunningham and Bradi Moore. I think people around the area knew of their potential, but I know I didn't expect them to be THIS electric. Central has to be considered a 6AA contender.
Richland and Penn Cambria - Living up to the expectations isn't always easy, but these guys are doing it. Definitely the class of the LHAC this year. Richland is so explosive and I love PC's depth and toughness on both sides of the ball.
Chad Speigle: WORK HORSE - Best player in the ICC IMO. West Branch would go 0-10 without him. Are 2-2 and should win 5 or 6 games with him.

C'mon Man!
Somerset's Inconsistency - You knock off LHAC powerhouse BM and appear to have turned the corner, then lose to bottom feeder Westmont? C'mon man!
Central Cambria - 6 points in 4 games. Wow. C'mon man!
Numbers in the ICC - So many teams have around 20-25 kids on their roster. What is up with these kids these days? Everyone wants to be the starting QB or what? C'mon man!
Philipsburg-Osceola - They have made some good progress in recent years including a good many playoff appearances. This year they are 0-4 and have been outscored 185-21. C'mon man!

BG huge surprise. Cousing eric price is a junior on that team and i saw him in august and he wasn't sure how season would go. Penns Manor has once again fell under the radar with week one loss at NC, but it seems they have decided to take heritage seriously after the first game. BA is somehow not mentioned as favorite in single A even though they are undefeated. Look out for a BG, PM, BM and BA final four this year.

Altoona?
Beat Norwin, then lost to Kiski, Gateway, and Penn Trafford.
Are they what was expected?
Are they improving as the year goes on?
