Glad this was posted. Would like some opinions on the block at around the 1:42:00 mark of the video. Was it legal, illegal or legal..just cheap. The block is on #75 (nose guard) made by the center and right guard. Center high...right guard dives at the knee. According to the rules, I'm not sure so any feedback would be appreciated. If any referees olut there your opinion would be great. might have to go full screen to see it..

It's illegal because he's locked with another player but i don't think it was meant to be dirty. I'm sure he was blowing up the middle and he wanted to help the center, but idk

I don't know either, just wanted opinions. I was told earlier by another poster that inside the tackles it was legal. If that's the case then I think a rule change is in order. I also wanted to know because I coach up my youngest son to never to block that way.

That is illegal and very questionable as to the intentions. Clearly he was engaged high with another player and the guard dove at the knees.
The quard even took a angle to cut him. The refs did a good job on that call but, that doesnt help the young man who was on the recieving end of that. I watched a bit of the film here and there and didnt see that happen in any other plays. I'm not saying it did or it didnt happen at other points of the game as I didnt watch it all nor do I intend on doing so. It will now be discussed as people's opinion's as to intentions and that I'm afraid we will never find out. I will keep a close eye on that guy to see if it happens this week.

I can't get the video to run on iPad but this is the rule paraphrased. There is a free blocking zone which is 4 yards on either side of the ball and 3 yards behind it on both sides. Players who are in this zone and on Their line of scrimmage ( defense is on line of scrimmage if within 1 yard of the ball) at the snap are permitted by rule to block below the waist ( cut block). Also the offense is permitted to clip and block in the back. Once the ball leaves the zone players are not allowed to cut, clip or block in back. At no time can players block high and low in combination on an opponent. It does not matter if they are engaged high and come in low, or if engaged low and come in high, or if the blocks occur at the same time. In all cases of a high low block it is illegal and a chop block. NFHS rules consider a low block to be at or below the knees. NCAA rules consider a low block below the waist. Hope this helps and I hope your boy is okay.

I didn't want to speculate considering we're talking about kids here but it definitely makes one wonder.
