Bellwood at Northern Bedford
Re: Bellwood at Northern Bedford
Joe cmon man dont blame the passing on nbc's qb. From what i saw he played a better game than worthing. His receivers had maybe 5 or six drops (some because of great defense. Some not). Also that pass interference call was completely missed. I will admit that as a bellwood fan even. Do not get on here and bash young players. Cmon man

Re: Bellwood at Northern Bedford
This is what happens when you dont play good teams .NBC goes into playoffs with an 8-1 or 9-0 record gets beat by 6-4 or 7-3 west pack team every year. they have good kids i hope they prove this wrong this year.NBC shouldnt lose a icc game the rest of the year.BA is tough i hope they go far in the playoffs
Re: Bellwood at Northern Bedford
People say this all the time about NB and the playoffs, etc. I'll stand up for us and say we just haven't been able to seal the deal and win the big one. We haven't been losing to teams that are 6-4 in the playoffs though.
In the past ten years, we have been to the final at least 3 times.
We played D'Carrion's crew from Berlin in the finals in 04. Prior to this game I believe we played North Star and beat them in the semis.
We played the NS team that should have beaten Serra Catholic from the WPIAL in the finals and lost that one. They are still perhaps the best team I think we've ever played. They were terrific. That game was in 07. We beat TM in the playoffs that year.
We played and lost to NS in the finals two years ago in 2010. We got there by beating Meyersdale and then CT in the playoffs. We had to play CT and NS without our quarterback Logan Fluke and still almost pulled off the comeback vs. NS.
In 2011, we beat Meyersdale in round 1 and then lost to Windber in the semis.
In 05 we had a defeat that still stings when TM knocked us out of the playoffs after we beat them by 30+ in the regular season.
In 06 we were 7-3 and lost in round 1 at Meyersdale in the semis. They were the top seed. We beat Rockwood in round 1.
07 was the year we lost to the NS team I mentioned above.
08 we lost in the semis to Windber. They were a very good team and beat us up pretty good. They may have won D5 that year?
09 we didn't make the playoffs. We were 4-6.
So to recap...
NB has been to the semis or finals in the semis of higher in something to the tune of 5 out of 7 years. We haven't won a title, but we have been there usually after winning a game or two in the playoffs. The D5 finalists have been terrific over most of the last decade. You are foolish to think otherwise.
Where have we been bad? In semifinal games vs. Windber (lots of teams struggle against that offense when you don't see it) and in finals games versus either Berlin or NS repeatedly over the past decade. In most every case I feel the best team won the game too. I won't take anything away from those teams. I think they were better than us.

Re: Bellwood at Northern Bedford
One final post from me on this thread...
I thought we went toe to toe with Bellwood last night for all but about 50 seconds of game time. At the end of the first half, we flat out had a meltdown with penalties. They should have had one play to try to score from the 25. Instead we got 2 penalties that were deserved on one play that moved them to the 5. They scored, we went down 14-0 instead of going into halftime trailing 6-0 and it cost us dearly. Down 14 and unable to run effectively, we were forced to be 100% one dimensional. When Bellwood-Antis knows what you are going to do... you aren't going to do it. It's that simple.
Even on Bellwood's first score, they got it on fourth down. We almost had two goal line stands. That one still didn't appear to be in after watching it on the news and in film. On the news, you could clearly hear this whistle blow before he stuck the ball out and the TD signal was then given from the side. Hey, sometimes that happens though. It was bang, bang and it is what it is. I didn't feel he was in when the whistle blew (and watch the news segment if you can, you'll hear the whistle to signal forward progress was stopped and a split second later he reaches the ball out and that is the first time the TD signal went up...i'm not making any excuse, just telling it like it is and you can watch that online for yourself).
The meltdown was our own fault.
The pass interference that they missed early on Diehl was not good but that did not even come close to costing us the game.
Here's the deal. Bellwood was about a touchdown better than us. They had a superb defensive effort. They were absolutely terrific on that side of the ball. Finally, on both scoring drives for Bellwood they had a 3rd and 10 or more that they converted. Degenarro ran a reverse for a first down and then they hit a draw for a first down on the second scoring series.
Hats off to Bellwood, they are terrific and have unreal speed. Degenarro needs to run track. He might have been faster than anyone else on the field including Worthing. His game speed is ridiculous. We had lots of nice compliments from B-A's folks as well. The hitting from both sides was on par with a district championship type of game and both schools had kids out there laying it all on the line. Beech from Bellwood was a monster and layed the smack down on our running backs. Ebersole was terrific for the NB defense. It was a fun game, I wish we had come out on top, but we'll learn from it and move forward towards the district playoffs.
That was a fun one Bellwood....great game fellas and good luck in D6!!! You are a class program with some terrific players and coaches.

Re: Bellwood at Northern Bedford
Well said, Coach.
I appreciate the graciousness in defeat. Much, much can be gained in a loss in a game of that manner in which both teams played with such heart....it will absolutely play dividends down the road.
I was thinking this in the stands Friday that if NBC "improved" their schedule a bit as the ICC conference would allow how that would elevate the play of NBC football and better prepare them for the D5 playoffs. To that idea, it would be neat to see neighbors Central and NBC schedule a game next year in the 10th week. That for sure would be huge gate at the ticket booth as compared to the existing 10th game for Central with Everett.
NBC will be loaded with many athletes returning in their current junior class and the case is the same with Central. Might just be dreaming a bit, but it would make for a neat matchup for week 10.
I also appreciate the rundown, Coach, of NBC's football track record throughout the last 7+ years...the championship will come with time. You have been knocking on the door enough lately that it will soon open.

Re: Bellwood at Northern Bedford
I think Northern Bedford has a very good chance of finally winning a district title this year. It's wide open and after seeing Berlin squeeking one out there really is no clear cut favorite. My top 3 teams in D-5 right now would be NB, North Star and Berlin in no particular order. If I had to name the best, I just might choose NB.

Re: Bellwood at Northern Bedford
I agree, NBC should be the favorite to win D5 at this point. Berlin is getting worn down with injuries just like they did 2 years ago. Windber and North Star aren't as good this year as usual. Any one of those 4 could win it but I like NBC.
