Once again we see why the A schools get mad!!

I agree public school are shaky also with regards to ATTRACTING athletes. My thought is they should have to play up a classification or two classifications. Bishop Carroll should in all likelihood be AA or maybe even AAA. Ok public schools try to influence at times a kid to come to there school. I agree with that. But being a private school has the ability to ATTRACT other kids from the area or areas they should be made to move up in classification. You are telling me that it is fair for BC BG to have 45 to 50 kids out for football and are single A compared to a A school that has 25 to 30 kids out a public school?? The word FAIR might sound like a generic term but plain and simple it isn't fair. It is more evident in basketball than football when you look over the last 10 years in schools that are playing in Hershey for PIAA state championships.

Whether or not something is "fair" is very difficult to prove. For me, this boils down to disparate treatment...which Websters defines as "altogether dissimilar, unequal". If a public school is permitted to have only students who reside within their school district's geographical limits participate...well you all know the argument.

Problem is, we have no idea what goes in in the larger districts public schools. Take the WPIAL for instance. There are students who routinely transfer from one public school to another for obvious athletic intent. If the PIAA is going to put the hamer down on the private schools, they better clean up their own house first.

nice post jacket and I agree 100%, but remember that almost all the parochial and academies belong to the PIAA. The PIAA needs to put a stop to all of it, both public and private!

Bottom line is we can debate this for a long time. THe PIAA is not going to do anything so we have to live with it. AGain I agree public schools are also guilty of trying to ATTRACT kids to there programs. PIAA will not do anything about this so it is almost a wasted arguement for or against this issue.

It'll probably never happen though because they (PIAA) are probably afraid of making some people mad and then Pennsylvania sports would become a laughing stock to the rest of the country because they couldn't maintain some type of organization and resolve the problem (a)effectively.

The PIAA CAN'T do anything...It is not a PIAA problem. It is a state legislature problem.

PIAA HS Sports History 101: In 1973 the State legislature after much lobbying by the Parochial schools who had been part of the PCIAA (Pennsylvania Catholic Interscholastic Ath. Assoc.) forced the PIAA to take Catholic schools. The catholic schools (PCIAA) lobbied statewide for inclusion in the PIAA which had been previously all public schools. There concern was a dwindling number of Catholic schools in the late 60's early 70's across the state. They were successful. There inclusion in the PIAA and dissolution of the PCIAA was forced by State law passed that year.

At that time there were no charter schools or juvy's (George Juvy, Glen Mills, VisionQuest) and the Scotlands and Milton Hershey's played as private school Independents and weren't a part of the PIAA or PCIAA.

Maybe Jubelirer and the boys should spend more time on this problem than trying to beat a dead horse and bring the football playoffs back to 'tuna!!

Is it possible that nothing is being done about it, because focusing on this would bring attention to the fact that there is a problem? And if you can live with a problem, why bring attention to it (certainly not my opinion). Just an idea....?
