Clairton vs Port Allegany
Re: Clairton vs Port Allegany
My comparison with Tyler is to Steve Breaston. Very similar. Breaston would do the same things at Woodland Hills. Punt Returns...he played Qb and Novak would just run QB draw and he would zig zag...cross field frustrate the heck out of everybody! haha. Breaston went to Michigan never played WR in high school but worked his butt off and now played 4 years with Arizona and now is with the KC Chiefs. Once again my point. Breaston was 6'2 170lbs graduating high school wasnt even a top 200 player. Didnt start til junior year. And I'll guarantee you there's a many 6'4 210lb kids from Fla..Texas...Cali...Georgia that were rated ahead that arent playing on Sundays. Right behind Percy Harvin in rankings was a kid name Vidal Hazelton 6'5 215lbs from NY. Signed with USC when Sanchez was there. Never saw the field. Xfrd to Cincinnati got hurt and that's it.

Re: Clairton vs Port Allegany
It seems that you are justifying him by his ranking. Which you fluffed him up from #17 to #8. But ok, throw the rankings out the window. He still does not come close to Percy Harvin. Like I said, Percy was bigger, faster, and stronger. Granted I have not seen Boyd him in a game. But I have seen a ton of videos showcasing his talents. They are used the same way around the field, but Percy was far superior.animus wrote: What does this have to do w/ being a Pitt fan or not. I'm saying what style of WR he is and how good he is. He wouldn't be listed as the #8 WR in the land if he wasn't that good. Yes I'd like to see him lined up all over the field and get the maximum touches. Hence the Percy Harvin comparison. Me being a Clairton guy considers him earning a College Degree and breaking the cycle as the best possible scenario, whether that's Pitt, Kent State, WVU, ND, or ECU.
I'm not trying to argue with you, just be real. Percy Harvin and Boyd are not on the same level.

Re: Clairton vs Port Allegany
I agree with Bucktown 100% that he would suit a WVU or Arizona system better. However, he's the type of player that's going to be successful wherever he goes. If he goes to Pitt he'll have less stats than if he goes to WVU but he'll be playing with numerous friends/teammates and even his brother and he'll play as a freshman.
All sides have their positives, but I'm hearing its the Killer T's all to Pitt. And I like the sound of that as a Pitt fan.

Re: Clairton vs Port Allegany
And he's not as good as Percy but that's no slight to Boyd. I believe Harvin was the #1 or #2 player in the whole country coming out of HS.
Re: Clairton vs Port Allegany
This is stupid...
Percy Harvin 5'11 180
Boyd 6'1 175
Harvin is certainly not bigger, maybe a little stronger, and possibly faster. And I'm not saying Boyd > Harvin at all. Harvin became an NFL WR for crying out loud. Harvin was the a better WR/RB in HS. He played against far better competition in HS and ended up at Florida. You're argument is that Harvin is better an they're not comparable as a talent. That's NOT what I'm debating.
They're the same STYLE of WR. Completely the same. Put Boyd in Meyers offense at OSU, and Boyd would be playing the same exact role as Harvin did at FSU. The same way Austin is playing a similar role at WVU. That's my comparison.

Re: Clairton vs Port Allegany
Their skills are not comparable. But like I said in the previous post, and you reiterated they can be used the same. By the way, just b/c he's 2 inches taller doesn't mean he's bigger. Boyd is a scrawny kid. Harvin was a chizzled muscular beast. That's the size i'm talking about. The way your talking about size, I'm bigger than Adrian Peterson b/c i'm taller than him. Harvin not a little stronger, A lot. Harvin not a little faster, A REAL LOT, Percy won 5 state track titles in the same meet as a junior.animus wrote:Dude... I'm talking about his skill sets being comparable to Harvin. Not where he ranks according to worthless subscription sites like Scout or MaxPreps. When you see him play, you'll see what I'm talking about.
We can go back and forth all day here. Let's just agree to disagree. Plus I can't keep typing Harvin and Boyd in the same sentence. It's just not right.
Re: Clairton vs Port Allegany
I thought that Notre Dame was in the mix for Boyd.
If Chryst ends up leaving Pitt, that could make a big difference.

Re: Clairton vs Port Allegany
Never mind... this is pointless.
Yea, ND is in the mix. Unsure where Boyd stands with ND. And yea, Chryst leaving would probably be the end of any Boyd to Pitt speculation.

Re: Clairton vs Port Allegany
Thanks Coach! Yes this is getting to overkill with Boyd. Injuries, work ethic, skill set, instincts and yes a little luck are all intangibles that will determine what happens in the next 3-4 years with this kid. Everybody is an expert in some way shape or form if you visit your local barber shop or coffee shop or in this case chat board. There's a reason why WRs at the combine get hands measured and take psych tests and have to run full throttle and catch balls coming 50mph at their heads. Cause you get to that level everybody runs a sub 4.4 and everybody can jump high and lift heavy weight. Ive just heard from Coach Wade he is a great kid and that's good enough for me right now.
