Local Wrestling Coverage

Post by CaptinAmerica »

I just want to say thank you to the local media and their great coverage of wrestling. Spring and Knopsnyder's blogs are amazing. They always write quality articles in the bedford gazette and the tribune democrat. I also have to mention Cement Job.com for broadcasting the D-Duals radio feed for those who were out of town. Keep up the good work guys. Its really appreciated.

I second that. I am stationed in Colorado and I feel like I don't miss any important news or events because of the great coverage by those guys.

I got a gripe with the Altoona mirror. Todd Irwin is the d6 historian, yet his paper had nice coverage on d5, and half a column on d6 and no boxscores. Any time you complain, you here none of the final teams were in their coverage area... I call BS on that!! They are located in D6, they were held 18 miles from their office, and if I'm in H-don, MU, WB, or PV I can find an Altoona mirror. I wonder if a guy from Johnstown or State College blew up tv-10 , if they'd bother reporting on it because the guy wasn't from their coverage area.

I think Irwin is falling behind in the wrestling coverage. Not having a blog really hurts him. However, i do think he should at least report box scores of d-6 teams but on the flipside if coaches do not report their scores he cant post them in the paper. Not sure if its effort or d-6 coaches not reporting. I still appreciate any coverage wrestling gets.

Eagle I will have to stick up for the mirror. I think they are hands down the best highschool sports paper in the area period, end of story. As a coach I have written and thanked them for there superior coverage numerous years. I will give you if you aren't in their coverage area you don't see squat, but their total highschool sports coverage is outstanding!

I said they had a nice write up on D5 , their coverage is good. It's what they chose to cover that annoys me. D6 duals were 18 miles from their office he drove 66 miles minimum to cover D5, if they couldn't send someone , couldn't get an e-mail from anyone? A paper that big has no connections to get boxscores? I like their coverage, maybe my gripe is more with the budget or attitude the paper has with the sport , not sure. But with all the good points you mentioned, (which I don't disaGREE WITH), not even taking the time to get boxscores for AA and AAA d6 is a step backwards in my opinion. BTW, Mifflin County ended Central Mountains stranglehold on AAA, it woulda been easy to miss.

Bravo, EagleAlum I've said, and been saying, basically the same thing now for how long. If you can get a Mirror, it's hands down better than the Trib. Why should travel distances have anything to do with coverages? Everyone has cell phones or internet connections. Develop friends from a cadre of followers of a particular sport from a particular school, and have them report to the sports desks or editors. Don't depend on Coaches to do it. BTW- is there ever any news happening in Cambria County? When I turn on my "local" news station, all I ever see is news about Centre County. Maybe they should consider moving the station there so they could have their own "local" news.
It ain't over until it's over.
