Week 1 ICC Preview

Post by rainmaker »

It is football season again! This year, the ICC seems like most of the other conferences in our area. The conference as a whole, like the Westpac and Heritage conference, has lost a ton of people. This first week will be based on a lot of gut instinct because some schools are full of unknowns from top to bottom and some schools don't have anything up on Maxpreps yet. Writeups will be short and sweet.

Mo Valley @ West Branch
I don't know much about West Branch other than the fact that they had some linemen back. Mo Valley returns a nice group of players in the skill positions and they are in their second year under Mike Keith. I'm taking Mo Valley and their 15 seniors in this one.
Mo Valley 33 West Branch 13

Mt Union @ Huntingdon
I can't tell you much other than these two schools have big rosters. The Bearcats won one game last year. Mt Union has some depth back and a strong core of skill guys. Give me Mt Union.
Mt. Union 27 - Huntingdon 13

Tyrone @ Bellwood
This game is always the game of the week but this week I'll pick a different one. I think that Tyrone will be too much for Bellwood this year with Oliver being ridiculous. Watching him and Gray running all over the field will be great to watch. I am wondering how Bellwood can return from losing two of their projected starters as they decided not to play.
Tyrone 28 Bellwood 13

Southern Huntingdon @ Juniata Valley
This game is intriguing. JV lost a lot of their linemen but they return a talented group of backs as well as their QB. Southern was terrible last year but their young team got lots of experience with most playing JV weekly as well. I'll say JV runs their offense better and they'll put up more points. Claar runs wild.
JV 20 SH 14

Glendale @ Northern Bedford
Both teams graduated nearly everyone. NBC returns Diehl and Over. That's enough for me to pick them.
NBC 34 Glendale 7

Wiliamsburg @ Claysburg
The Bulldogs have a new coach and I hear they are playing smashmouth football. The Pirates have some skill guys that will allow them to make some big plays. I'll take Gabe Walter in his debut for CK.
Claysburg 26 Williamsburg 6

Game of the Week: Tussey Mountain at Everett
Tussey returns Sipes and a great core of juniors and seniors. Sipes is a burner. The Titans also have Daniel Taylor. Everett has a HUGE line. They got a lot better as last year went on. I expect them to be one of the best teams in the ICC. I think this is going to be a great game to watch with all kinds of special teams playsers making plays. This should be a fun opener...
Everett 28 - Tussey Mountain 27

Everett will not be one of the best teams in the ICC. They looked terrible in their scrimage vs. Berlin.

A little late but...

MU over Huntingdon...just a guess.

Bellwood over Tyrone. Could obviously go either way.

JV big over SH. The ICC would be a much better conference if Southern was Southern. It's sad seing where this program has gone.

Mo Valley over West Branch. Closer than the experts think. Mo Valley has lost a lot of playmakers, will be interesting to see who steps up. West Branch might actually be better at the skill positions, and Selepak is a beast, but Mo Valley will have more depth. A cramp here or there could doom WB in week 1.

Williamsburg over Claysburg. Cupboard is bear for the new staff at CK. Hearn has established himself as a decent coach for the often under maned Blue Pirates.

NB over Glendale. Over and Diehl are definitely 2 of the top 5 players in the ICC, should be enough to carry them past most of the teams on their schedule.

Tussey over Everett. Everett once again has a huge line, but they have nothing at the skill spots. Sipes and Barnett are good players. Tussey's kids work real hard in the weight room, they won't get pushed around up front. I wouldn't be surprised if Tussey won by double digits.
