I agree with most of which is being said, but I think some folks are a little off when they say that ALL Bedford sports have been down and will continue to be down. Granted, Bedford's "main" programs, football and wrestling, are down considerably, but many other teams are still enjoying some success. Their track team finished second last year in the LHAC and will mostlikely repeat that mark again this season. Their golf team, albeit not that important of a sport to most, has won the conference numerous times and will continue to enjoy success in the future. Their girls' basketball team has a 3-2 record against very tough LHAC foes and is laden with sophomores and juniors who are molding into very good players. I think this team has a shot at really doing some great things in the future. I know many of you will say that those are just a few examples and I'm just trying to make excuses, which is true, but I just thought that it needed to be pointed out that not all sports are faltering. All in all, I agree, Bedford is down in nearly all sports but I think that the bleek outlook many of you are portraying is slightly skewed.

Well leagues are school wide, so unless all sports go BCL, then the LH is where we should be. If you win there, then you are a real contender. Otherwise you are out in the first or second round anyways.

I disagree with about everything that has been said here.

The LHAC was not a mistake.

Bedford has always carried a difficult schedule.

The athletes are here. This year there is no better athlete in the county than the Harris brothers or before his departure Mike Turkovich. With no disrespect to Coach Swaim, Max Shoemaker would have had an outstanding year in football with the possiblity of another huge season coming up. Coach Swaim will get there but it is a transition.

Who cares what the 7th grade team looked like this year? That is Ridge thinking. I didn't win a game in 7th or 8th grade and won 3 games as a 9th grader. Our team did all right as seniors.
Bedford will be fine.

Bedford is a competitive school in the LHAC. They belong there. Football was in the playoffs again this year and they had some injuries this past season. Basketball is struggling some this year but I think with the Turkovich boy leaving really hurt them. Next season they will be really solid. They do belong and do compete very well in the LHAC. The big picture is they might be struggling a tad this year but lets look at how well they have competed up to this point and the future looks good also.

Bedrock: Remember Shank and Rogish were probably the best JH football coaches ever in the county. They made top notch teams out of talent that wasn't always top notch and prepared them for varstiy. Max, Creps and Company elevated them (Dean McGee did too) in the varsity program. I just don't see that happening for a long while. No disrespect to the current head football coaches at Bedford but Rome wasn't built in a day and a new football program at Bedford won't be rebuilt quickly without years of growing pains and if Goo and Creps aren't around whose left to help out?

Gunner don't use who the coach is or isn't as an excuse not to go out for a sport. That's really lame but I thought you were a good soccer player so what the story? Would you have been just the kicker?

Bedrock: would be more than welcome as a teacher (we probably will have a history job open up in the near future) or as an adminstrator.

With all due respect, Bedrock, I disagree. In my opinion Max is/was a terrific coach -- a great coach -- and it's to Bedford's everlasting shame that he got squeezed out (Where the hell were the parents and the community for that? I refuse to believe that a well-organized protest would not have had results), but he's not a miracle worker. An outstanding season, in my mind, means going undefeated or losing one or two games, at the most. I agree he very well might have had a good season, though.

You've got a lot of very fine coaches who retired, quit, or simply became estranged from the program. Those things happen, and people make choices. To regain past glory, even with great players, will be hard. In a way, there's a certain kind of justice for what's happening and may continue to happen. For so many years the coaches at BHS -- across the sports spectrum -- were grossly underappreciated. How else do you explain the lousy salaries? They coached because of love and dedication.
