Jr. High Football

Post by DragonsDoExist »

Spring Cove has won their last 3 games vs Tyrone, Clearfield, and Penns Valley by a combined score of 110-0! Needless to say the future definitely looks bright for the Dragons! Tough game vs a good BEA team coming up this week!

It's a good place to start. But a lil FYI , Tyrone's last 2 undefeated varsity teams were 4-13-2 in jr high combined.

A lot of success in Jr high is on who goes thru puberty first. The group of kids that graduated last year from Saltsburg killed everyone in Jr. high. I don't think they gave up a point. Then last year i believe they won 2 games.

Don't get me wrong, good for those kids. That's great. But that doesn't mean a lot. As I mentioned when I was in 7-8th grade LONG AGO, we didn't lose.Only gave up around 25 points in two years. But had little success in varsity football. Like one poster said, it usually comes down to who hits puberty earlier. Heck I think we had a few kids shaving in grade 8! Hopefully it transfers to varsity ball for those kids. But once you get there it comes down to coaching, having athletes, and work ethic. But I reiterate, good for the young dragons. Keep it up young guys!

On my junior high team we did not care about winning as much as we cared about learning the offense and defense we would be running on varsity. We won more than a few games but that was not are main focus.

Glad they are doing well and certainly an impressive record.. Having a good jr high program is definitely a good start although it has no indication on the finish.. Most teams have a 9th grader or 2 starting at the varsity level.. Theres such a huge time gap from 7th - 12th you just never know how people will develop
