Favorite 2013 Pirate Game/Moment/Memory

Before we let the 2013 Pirate season fade into our memories I suggest we revisit the years biggest moments. For me the doubleheader sweep of the Cardinals while taking four out of five during the series was as exciting as anything I had experienced at PNC. With Compton, a relative unknown winning the second game on the mound, the crowd was absolutely electric. In the stadium for nine hours as the first game went extra innings. If only I had "all you can eat seats" that day, with my kids in attendance, the Bucs might be bankrupt despite a record number of sellouts. Fireworks, Gateway Clipper, Buffet at the Casino, Clemente Bridge walk over, high fiving and hugging total strangers during the Wild Card Game. Not sure why we care so much...it's just a game I guess. But this year it seemed like a lot more.

I had 2 moments this year that I will always remember. First, I was at the game in Washington when Liriano took a no-hitter into the 7th. He was electric that night and it was when I realized how big of a national story the pirates were becoming. Since DC went decades without a team and it usually being a commuter city (people who live there are usually not from there), it seemed as though the entire stadium was secretly rooting for the buccos. People I was sitting around came out just to see these pirates. I heard all kind of comments that night that I never thought I would hear about the pirates especially in an opposing city.

The second has to be Byrd blasting the 2nd inning homer in the Wild Card game. I knew soon as he hit that, Liriano was going to be borderline untouchable with the lead.

Next year this team will have to do it with expectations. A lot tougher to do, ask the Nationals.

The few moments Brandon Inge had, his first 2 were huge.first Two hits were rbis including a game winner to break the early funk Pittsburgh was in after 7 games. And Travis Sniders walk off before the good west coast swing and getting to go "home" to upper northwest on a good note.... He didn't have many. We're good ones
But my favorite has to be the 4/5 at home vs St Louis , highlighted by the fans harassing Holiday in Left.

September 23 vs. the Cubs...McCutchen picked up Ryan Sweeney's bloop single after right fielder Marlon Byrd failed in trying to scoop up the ball and threw to first baseman Justin Morneau, positioned just in front of the pitcher's mound. Morneau caught the throw on one hop and made the relay to catcher Russell Martin, who applied the tag on Nate Schierholtz trying to score from first base. I think this was the turning point of the season had the bucks lost the game it is my opinion they would have self-destructed once again

The very first win that put them over .500. Until then there was always a chance of another El-Foldo. Not in any way to be confused with El Moldo.
