So Richland is having problems within their girls bball program, 1. Lack of interest within the Richland girls bball program. 2.Another player leaves for Swickley. 3. A new coach. The Instone girl transfers to McCort, McCort accepts and signs off because they figure its not athletic intent. Ok

Yes i think its OK. Who am i to be in the decision making process of a student that is not mine. I guessing that the PARENTS of this child were involved in that process. Pretty sure the STUDENT did not come up with this idea all by herself and do the paper work... so i say any one can go to a private school regardless of where they live. If you dont like the public school you are in you can move to another. Everyone has choices you can stay where you are if you like it or change your situation if YOU want. It is still up to each PARENT to make that choice and im sure there are lots of curmsatances leading up to that so i wont judge that decision because ultimatley we ALL have the same options available to us.

I don't think it's ok or that everyone has the same choice. That is easy to say. Until the public schools or the PIAA start to crack down on these transfers for athletic purposes it's just going to continue to get worse and out of control. Change the playoff format while you're at it.

Bottom line is everyone does have the same options/choice. They would not be easy ones. Example move to a new district.. drive your kids to school or let them drive all these things must be considered before making a decision but conserding how many students are enrolled in our area surroundings schools compared to the number of transfers that are made does not seem like its a big deal. Only if you make it one. There will always be transfers for lots of different reasons this is not a Perfect world we live in. Let each parent/child make there own decisions for their own reasons. Its not up to US.

To make a blanket statement like everyone could do it is crazy. In basketball and especially at the lower classifications one player can tip the balance of power in an entire league/conference or district. Again, change the playoff system so that there is a private school champion and a public school champion in each classification. Some states do it.

In any case, why do public schools continue to just sign off on transfers? Don't want the hassle? When will it stop? Let's see how many of those kids would stay at the school they transferred to if they had to sit out for a certain time period or if they were ruled ineligible all together for a year. Shouldn't be a problem if they aren't transferring for athletic purposes.
