No sir. Atleast not anymore.
Re: A rule change I don't understand...
Never was. Only a few fouls are automatic first down. Roughing passer, snapper, kicker and holder. Prior to this season defensive pass interference was. Personal fouls, holding, face masking, etc. are just yardage penalties. If the penalty enforcement leaves the offense short of the sticks, it is not a first down.

This was a new rule change this year. DPI is no longer an automatic first down and OPI is no longer loss of down. While I dont have an opinion on the rule itself the coaches are mandated to attend a meeting at the start of the year to go over these kinds of things so if the NBC coach did not know that it is on him.
The kickoff rule you are discussing isnt new....you just dont see it often.
Re: A rule change I don't understand...
We knew it. It is just pretty silly in a fourth and goal to go. It's a few yard penalty and not even one where you put it on the 2.

[quote="Coach"]4th and goal from the 10.
Pass interference on the defense in the end zone.
That is half the distance to the goal and not an automatic first down.
An offense should NEVER score a touchdown on a pass play with this rule in place. Defense has nothing to lose by interfering with the receiver and eventually you will get a "no call" and the defense wins the battle. Start submitting your rule change request this year, it will take a ton of complaints and a few years to straighten this one out. NFHS hates to go back on rules they just changed.

Exactly. Just mug the receiver and get another crack at stopping them.
Re: A rule change I don't understand...
Question. A QB calls for a timeout to stop the clock, the refs ignore him then he spikes the ball to stop the clock. Shouldn't have there been a penalty for calling for a time out when your team is out of time outs? Not that it mattered because there were seconds left in the game just wanted to know the rule on this.
Re: A rule change I don't understand...
Not a penalty.

blaze, I am thinking you are referring to Burch from Bellwood that did that Saturday night?
I was wondering the same thing.....

I thought PI is all they took the auto matic first down away from... So it doesn't apply to PF as well? That's even more wrong
