Can anyone tell me how refs are picked for regular season and playoff games?

Regular season officials are hired by the home team school.

Playoff officials are assigned by the district.

According to an official I work with. The district assigns the white hats and the white hats pick their crews.

The only chapter in D6, that does that, that I am aware of is the Indiana chapter. For our playoff crew we work as a seven man unit every playoff game that we are assigned.

White has to turn in his seven men to the district prior to playoffs so when the district calls the white hat they are required to bring those specific guys unless they have permission otherwise due to an emergency.

Yes, thanks for the info. I have wondered for years when I've been told the district picks that I've seen crews that look like part of a regular season crew with a couple of throw ins.

That usually is the case a when the white hat is asked for his crew he will normally keep his regular crew from all year. During the year the officials work 6 man crews and come playoff time they work 7 man crews so you will see at least one new face. Sometimes more if a guy on the regular crew was not eligible for playoffs yet or something (You have to have 5 years experience to do a playoff game)
