The Tyrone youth league is the same as the Bellwood and Huntindon Co. Youth Football Leagues, we do a lot of inner-league scrimmages with each other. If this does in fact happen. All youth leagues will have to restructure and it will definitely cause problems at the youth level. As of right now, the youth levels in Tyrone/Bellwood is 2nd, 3rd, 4th is Pee-Wee tackle football and 5th, 6th, 7th is Youth tackle football.
Even though the youth leagues will have to restructure or combine. It definitely will help numbers on high school teams, especially ones who are struggling to field a team.

Here's hoping the Mountain League doesn't go to this rule. A lot of ninth graders who played a lot of football this year wouldn't have done so if that were the rule.
You play to win the game!!!

Re: Cancelled games
I dont think this rule would hurt 9th graders for bigger schools. Just have 3 teams. Varsity, junior varsity and rookie. Rookie teams can only have 10th and 9th graders

I personally do not think the PIAA will be making that rule change. I think they will continue to allow the local schools to handle that decision on their own.
Re: Cancelled games
The Heritage has done this for 2 years now and i don't think it's a good idea. Some freshman can compete at that level but most can't. Then some coaches play mostly freshman and sophmores on the jv team while others play juniors and even some seniors. I think they would have been better to leave freshman at the jr. high level and eliminate jv football.

Playing freshman has been huge for some heritage teams. Purchase line has had to play several freshman the last two years. Mostly because of injuries and lack of depth, but you really see the improvement of those players over the last two years. The starters were mostly sophomores this year with a few freshman starting and they improve a lot as the season went along finishing the second half of the season going 4-1. Some teams need freshman more than others tho so it should be the coaches choice.
