Football Program Rankings in D5/D6
Now that another season is coming to an end I was just wondering everyone thoughts of who they think are the top high school football programs in the D5/D6 area over the past 15-20 years based on wins, conference championships, district titles, and state playoff experience. Regardless of classification. Public or Private. Let's hear your opinions and your Top 10's...
Here's my top 10:
Honorable Mentions: Windber, Central Cambria, Juniata Valley, State College
10. Richland...relatively new to being a "power" but since Brandon Bailey has taken over the Rams have been a force to be reckon with
9. Portage...although no district championships, Portage is ALWAYS a solid football team with a legendary coach and strong football tradition
8. Central...with 3 district championships and two since 2008 the Cove is once again the home of the best team in D6-AA
7. Huntingdon...although not much success recently, the Bearcats have a strong and proud football tradition with over 600 wins and 6 district titles, most recently AAA in 2005
6. Clearfield...a D9 power for years and now apart of D6, look for the Bisons to dominate D6-AAA for years to come. 10 D9 championships and 1 D6/9 championships equaling 11 district titles
5. Forest Hills...for years the pride of the LHAC, the Rangers are led by a legend and one of the best coaches in the history of PA high school football, not to mention 9 district championships
4. Bellwood-Antis...Coach Hayes has won since day 1 at Bellwood when he took over in 1980 and his success continues year in year out, 5 district titles speak for themselves.
3. Bishop Carroll...PIAA Class A runner-up in 2003 and 7 district championships, the Huskies are no pushover and are always in the mix
2. Bishop McCort...like them or not McCort is a proven winner, 2009 PIAA Class A runner-up and 5 district championships. They are the envy of a lot of schools in D6
And #1...
Tyrone...the house that Franco built! 3 PIAA Class AA appearances and 1 state championship in 1999. 9 district championships, countless undefeated seasons, almost impossible to beat at home. The Golden Eagles have been the measuring stick for everyone in D6 for a long time

I really like this list a lot, with that being said and me graduating from portage, playing for coach Gouse, I'd have to say Windber has to b on there somewhere right?

Forest Hills should be higher, like #2 or 3. Huntingdon? If they're on Central Cambria should be too. What about Windber?
The only D6 teams to appear in a PIAA football final? Tyrone, Forest Hills, Carroll, and McCort. There are your top 4 in order.

Tyrone and FH both have 9... 8 in AA and 1 in AAA
Raven took a shot, and overall pretty close IMO.. Only differences I'd have, my top 4 would echo Titans. And while Richland has the goods last few years, I'd probably have them an honorable mention.. Post was about programs and tradition.. I agree Huntingdon belongs, way over 600 wins and the fact they've beaten Tyrone 45 times warrants inclusion. But I'd have to include State College ... The Suehys, the Johnson's only local to have been nationally ranked( that I know of..)
I know you're a BA transplant so, I'd go with the house that Jacobs built (but renovated and improved by Franco...lol)

HAHAHAHA thanks. I tried with the best of my knowledge. I think that 2-5 could go in almost any order depending on opinion. They (FH, BA, BC, BM) ALL have very strong and successful football history. And if Clearfield was apart of D6 longer they definitely would have been higher but being relatively a new comer since D6/9-AAA merger I couldn't crown them king lolEaglealum wrote:Tyrone and FH both have 9... 8 in AA and 1 in AAA

Clearfield is still D9, not D6.
