They screwed the pooch waiting on AJ. Phil Hughes already signed for 3 years, ill bet less per year than they'll have to give AJ ... The 3/4 guys I liked all already signed somewhere... Hughes, kazmir, nolasco and vogelsong... None of those guys went for more than 12 per yr... AJ s qualifying offer would have been 14.1. If he does come back I can't see it for less than 12... Get a friggin good 1b !!!! I mean Loney or Lind not Morrison (.236 last 2 yrs) or morse.

Youk is to old, I wanna play pro ball too and I'm only 24 and I'll take the league minimal but u don't see teams calling me, point being is just because u wanna play doesn't mean u will, good example is TO in football prob in the best shape in 8 yrs and no one will give him a chance maybe it has a little to do with his past but he is old and no team wants that old of a player

The bucs could of had Lind for Neil Walker and said no. I think I'd have pulled the trigger quick on that one before they changed their minds

See is would take a shot with Youk. Remember 2 years ago everyone thought Marlon Byrd's career was over. He is only looking for a major league contract and you would think the pirates would be on his list of places he would consider playing. What is it going to hurt? Best case scenario is he stays healthy and bats .270 and pops around 20 balls out of the park. Worse case scenario he is an experienced pinch hitter.

Several problems with youk. 1st he hit .235 in 2012, and .219 in 2013.(.270) is a huge stretch ... Second, he's a righthanded 1b... That would give the bucs two of them and no lefty to platoon with... Because theres no way either can be the everyday guy... Gabby possibly but I doubt it... Youk would be on dl by mid may...

I know the pirates have no interest and this is a thread about the Pirates offseason but what do you think the market for Cole Hamels and Cliff Lee is? They are both 30 something workhorse pitchers with $20+ Million per year contracts...I don't see many teams lining up at the door to trade anything for these 2. The Phillies front office, IMO has been the worst FO in the league over the past 3 years. Until Halladay bailed them out with retirement they owed him, Lee, and Hamels over $60 Million next year. Not to mention a $20+ Million a year contract for Ryan Howard who may or may not be the starting first baseman next year.

I've been saying for year the Phillies were committing the cardinal sin as a front office after their brief few years of success. Everyone on the team (Victorino, Rollins, Howard, Utley, Hamels, Lee, Oswalt, and Halladay) got these monster contracts on the backside of their careers. A lot of it may be pressure from the fan base. The only player they left walk (Worth) is the only one that lived up to his next contract.

Then this year they go out and sign Byrd, who brings nothing to the rebuilding project. The worse news of all is the Mets, Marlins, Nats, and Braves are all young rosters that will be better. Talk about how to go from hero to zero in a few years, this is how you do it...

Ya want an experienced pinch hit platoon guy, go get Johnny Gomes . Sox may be looking to lose an outfielder and he's known for being clutch and postseason experience... Bonus being we could dump tabata and or snider
