Most local piss ant schools have to move up freshman in order to have a team in football and this is beginning to occur more and more in hoops too. The more freshman, the less competition, the more pathetic local HS sports become. From what i have seen this year it is at an all-time low and headed lower (if that is possible) as area school district enrollments continue to whither away and the teachers union continues to obstruct consolidation.

actually psycho - at our small piss ant school - are hoops are reaching participation levels not seen since 95-96 seasons when we won states. Our varsity roster has 15 players all juniors and seniors and 1 exceptional soph. Our JV Program has all juniors and sophs and one freshman who was moved up for logisitcs purposes for the family to save money on travel as the older brother is one of those on the varsity roster. Our Junior High teams sport a total of 26 players, 13 on the "a" team and 13 on the "b" team, of which are comprised of a mix of 7, 8 and 9th graders. Our 6th grade team has huge numbers, and they are talking about a need to change to a 7th, 8th and 9th grade team format.

Whats interesting is that none of these teams to date this year have lost a game yet; They are all undefeated in Dec. The Varsity has some tough games coming up, as does the JV, but they will certainly be in the hunt to win those tough games. I dont think our junior high teams will lose a game. they have been winning all of their games by an avg. of 40 points/game, and they are incredible. We have heard already from our rivals after they get a beat down, that our JH team wouldn't be that doing that good and we wouldn't be winning so handily if their 9th graders had not been moved up. Then when our JV / Varsity team puts a beat down on those same rival schools we get the excuse we are only successful because we are playing Juniors and Seniors against 9th graders. I guess we cant win a game no matter who we play.

This is at a single A school in the ICC. As short as 5-6 years ago our program had no JV team at all, and varsity had 7 players total. Our Junior high team during those times were typically made of only 7 and 8 graders as the 9th graders were getting moved up regardless of skill. What a difference when a few bad apples (parents and selfish players) are moved out and good coaches get to take control of the team again

I am totally against moving up 9th graders, with few exceptions. The frosh that got moved up this year is a good player, but not a prodigy. He is playing some JV minutes, but not near the minutes he would have gotten had he stayed in JH. That was a family decision that was made. Most times frosh's are socially challenged being around kids he does not know or hang out with. Physically they are not ready most times to be able to stand toe to toe with a more mature and experienced kid.

Not a surprise here with 3 of their starters leaving to attend Guilfoyle to all get a better quality education together.

Funny thing is when you see BG girls getting to play in Hershey a lot of years people have the nerve to say they don't recruit. RIDICULOUS!!!!!

When we're all navigating our way around this site, we must be careful not to trip over psycho's soapbox. :))
It ain't over until it's over.

I would agree the freshmen are stepping up as of late. i did see NB girls play the other day and the snyder girl is there weapon of choice. but they had a few off the bench that were not bad just a very small team.
It also looks like Forbes road has alot of freshmen on there team as well.

Green I was agreeing with you and laughing that someone besides me said this. If you go to my football post early in the season I was called anti-Catholic for saying BC and BM recruited, And racist for saying Lincoln Park school for the "PERFORMING ARTS" recruited.

You have to admit it WAS funny!!!!
