6-Class Football Model
6-Class Football Model
Okay, so I was a little bored this evening in Antarctica and decided to take the new PIAA numbers for football and model what a 6-Class system would look like keeping the existing "even distribution" model. Classes A - AAA are District 6 schools only. Classes AAAA - AAAAAA follow the existing playoff model and include Districts 5, 6, 8 & 9. Schools are listed from largest to smallest within each classification and are as follows:
AAAAAA
Altoona Area High School
State College Area High School
Brashear High School
Taylor Allderdice High School
Mifflin County High School
AAAAA
DuBois Area High School
Perry Traditional Academy
Central Mountain High School
Carrick High School
University Prep Margaret Milliones
AAAA
Hollidaysburg Area High School
Bellefonte Area High School
Greater Johnstown High School
Punxsutawney Area High School
Clearfield Area High School
Somerset Area High School
Bradford Area High School
AAA
Huntingdon Area High School
Forest Hills High School
Central High School
Juniata High School
Philipsburg Osceola Area High School
Tyrone Area High School
Central Cambria High School
Ligonier Valley High School
AA
Penns Valley Area High School
Bald Eagle Area High School
Penn Cambria High School
Richland High School
Southern Huntingdon County Senior High School
Mount Union Area High School
Westmont Hilltop High School
Marion Center Area High School
Cambria Heights High School
West Branch High School
Bellwood Antis High School
Bishop McCort Catholic High School

Northern Cambria High School
United High School
Blairsville High School
Purchase Line High School
Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School
Penns Manor Area High School
Homer Center High School
Claysburg Kimmel High School

Glendale High School
Saltsburg High School
Juniata Valley High School
Portage Area High School
Bishop Carroll Catholic High School
Blacklick Valley High School
Ferndale Area High School
Williamsburg High School
St Joseph's Catholic Academy
Classes A - AAAA look like natural conferences to me knowing full well there would be more travel involved for many of the schools. This could work.
Here are the schools in District 5 (excluding Somerset which is included above):
AAA
Bedford High School
Chestnut Ridge High School
AA
Everett Area High School
A
Northern Bedford County High School
Tussey Mountain High School
North Star High School
Meyersdale Area High School
Berlin Brothersvalley High School
Rockwood Area High School
Conemaugh Township Area High School

Windber Area High School

Re: 6-Class Football Model
And what would an eight class, ten class and sixteen class football model look like?
Re: 6-Class Football Model
You do know that they are never going to change the current model, and they aren't going to force consolidation either.

Re: 6-Class Football Model
forcing consolidation wont happen because of sports, it will happen because the State Gov. wants to squeeze dollars out of the state appropriations they hand out to all those publics. Its not a matter of if, but when.
BTW agree with the 6 class model as it means more playoff games and revenue for more schools and the PIAA.
Please some one complain and tell us not-knowitalls whats wrong with making money, and giving more kids a chance to play one more game!

Re: 6-Class Football Model
I'm actually okay with the current 4 class system. I just did the analysis as I wanted to see what it would look like in District 6 if implemented.
By looking at the western districts and how their population is declining faster than the eastern districts, implementing a 6 class system would certainly mean more sub-regions come playoff time.

Re: 6-Class Football Model
With as vote-needing as the Corbett administration is, do you believe they have the kuhoonas to start forcing consolidation now? Destroying alma-maters brings up too much negative emotion in almost everyone. I see them biding their time till they get out.d6footballfan wrote: Its not a matter of if, but when.
